Post by: justjoan on June 27, 2018, 09:40:34 PM
Greetings, I have been around for a long time and I need some help finding a flying dragon tree hopefulky, but if I have to go the seed route I will.  I have been looking online and the place I thought would have one, Fourwinds does not.  Hoping someone can help.  I love their appearance and so.  I have several citrus and tropicals, please help if you can😊

I have sown many FDs but none of the seedling became a true FD. Most of them look like standard Poncirus, some have slightly curved thorns but nothing more. I have no idea if this is always the case.

Hi Joan, long time no see.  I have an extra FD tree.  It is about 4 foot tall and quite healthy.  Send me a private message with your address.

Mikkel,
Your seeds were probably from a hybrid of FD with ordinary poncirus. It looks like FD but at next generation is giving predominantly wild type PT seedlings. My pure FD is giving only curved seedlings, some extremely dwarf, but all of FD type.

it is interesting that all different FDs gave standard PT seedlings. Do you think the seedlings are F1 or the mother plant?

My FD is not giving standard poncirus seedlings, only distorted ones.

Interesting! Mine fruited for the first time last year and out of 13 seedlings only 4 are dwarfs. But they are really, really tiny.

Only about 50% of FD seedlings are true FD varieties

My experience is more like 80%.
