It may get a bit too cold for you. They do not like wind or dry conditions.
Also prolonged temps at 40-45f will make them drop the leaves.
If you are willing to protect in the winter, it should be doable!

Mafai are typically the thai ones but they come in a variety of forms and fruit colours. Some look a lot like rambai even but the purple seeds give their identity away. There are a few 50 footers on my street in a bit of regrowth by the road. They sure have heavy crops. Speaking of big trees santols get get very large indeed.
The santol tasted pretty sour lol.
I hear there are sweet ones out there.
What's your experience?

My friend in FL had a flowering salak at about 5' total height. The ones at the F and S park in Miami are around 7-8 ft tops.
They don't get as big or take longer to get as big as they do in the real tropical climates.

Add santol seeds.!

Hey where did you get these if you don't mind me asking?
There's a fruit for sale group on FB!
Some seller in Oklahoma sent them to me. LOL

I see a lot of ebay sellers wanting $$$ for seeds....where did you get yours? Hows the growth pattern?
Growth pattern is stable like any other mango. Pretty easy to grow. Can't take freezes. I've killed on before :(
I don't know of anyone selling any right now. Got it in a trade.

I just got...
nvm

I don't think there is a 100% way to tell male or female imbe or Spanish lime for that matter.
If there is, please show me! I think a good way is just finding out the parentage for better % of self pollinating ones.

Yes a spineless wallachiana that has left behind its rakum and sakum ancestors and reached a level of development known as sala. It is not as good as sumalee or noen wong still.
Mike,
what's the best salaks out there?
USA there's not much out there
a few gula pasir,
zalacca
bali
and wallichiana

Isn't this mango patented, so technically you can't sell scions?

There is a spineless salak...
But salaks get very big and they are tough to grow (considering you are trying to grow inside).
I have a nice sized one, and if I can keep it alive, I'll go get some more.
Even with my greenhouse, it's gonna be a push.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: When to move my trees outside
« on: April 08, 2024, 03:16:15 PM »
I moved my trees outside last 2 weeks ago...
I said if it freezes, too bad.
There are easy freeze prevention methods as long as it doesn't go below 30f.
Some jabos got a bit of leaf burn, but next flush they'll be ok.
Try to keep in some shade at first. I find even moving them out on a cloudy day helps.

They can be both...male, female, and hermaphroditic.
Also, just cause it's a male tree it can throw a few complete flowers and set a few fruit...likewise for female.
It's very confusing and that goes for basically all garcinias in question.

Mine r doing well. leafing out. Can be left outside in colder zones!
My friends in FL also have theirs leafing out and doing good.
I don't know about the warmer weather though but they seem to be ok for now!

Also contact me if you need other types like giant rose and golden finger...
very limited on those varieties.

I keep mine in my garage and it works well...I have found out that even leaving it out in the sun for a day or so really wrecks it.
If that happens, just peel off the next few feet of wrap and then you're good.
I feel like a year is a good start. But it's relatively inexpensive I'll buy a new one each year.
Now with buddy tape it's more expensive so I'll guard it with my life lol.
I have a brand new roll just sitting in my house for fear I'll leave it outside on accident :P
