thanks everyone!!
Brad: sugar apple seems to survive down to about 28F when mature, maybe even 27F? only for brief exposure... a mild freeze is easy to overcome...they are easy to prune heavily and protect, even when temps go below 29F...i think the low 20's and high teens will be the coldest you can protect them from in the ground....lots of pruning, and covering the trunks with mulch/compost will be my method here in zone 9a.
the dream is the most tolerant of the annonas (cherimoya/atemoya/sugar apple) type fruits. I think they will survive brief exposure to 19-22F without dying!
Jeff, those are muntingia calabura, i have a variety that seems to make fruits twice as big as the common type sold by most nurseries. I really like this fruit, and it's easy to fruit in a pot for many years...they are drought and heat tolerant, temps of 110F don't harm the tree.
Ataman, per year? I suppose close to 25-30 fruits (maybe more?) but some are just varieties of the same species.
Simon, no joke, be careful eating all these fruits, the enamel on your teeth will definitely suffer if you are not careful...my teeth have started to get a little sensitive over the past 2yrs...I don't like to use my teeth as much to gnaw into acid fruits (like pitangatuba, lemon drop mangosteen, or jaboticaba)....I really enjoy the juice...less wear and tear on your dentition.
