Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to store papaya seeds
« on: April 12, 2020, 10:02:28 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter and I hope all of you have been safe during these trying times.

I harvested Papayas that the seeds came from Bangladesh.  It seems to be a wild variety because none of the fruit grows uniform.  It’s extremely sweet when ripe and stays green for a very long time which tells me it’s good for shipping.  I harvested maybe 200 seeds from the best shaped fruit and waited for it to completely ripen.  My concern is how to store these seeds in the meantime since I have to stay home during this quarantine.  Anyone know how to properly store Papaya Seeds properly?

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,
Alex

Hello Everyone,

Up for sale is a 65 gallon Kiew Yai Mango Tree that is producing already.  Pretty good mango for those who know it and it produces huge indochinese flavored fruit.

I have other trees for sale but this is the first one I'd like to put on here while Im still in the process of getting Honeymations in order.  Kind of strapped for cash so Im pricing this to sell asap; $275.  Must be picked up for that price*

Locates in Miramar.  Thank you for your interest

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Manohar Mango
« on: October 27, 2019, 09:58:12 AM »
Hello,

Im really interested in this variety because I feel Original Chaunsa mangoes are the best tasting.  I have the original chaunsa and when smelling crushed leaves of manohar you can clearly smell the similar sweetness thats peculiar to Chaunsa mangoes.

Does anyone here have fruiting trees they can share pictures of?  Obviously we're out of season but I was wondering if anyone had any additional info or pictures. When diving into this forum I realize it was a variety that came through here.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,
Alex

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Tell us about your new variety of Mangoes...

I thought it would be good to start a thread about Mango Breeding projects or seedlings you've been patient enough to fruit.  Post some pictures and any other information you want to share.  I've got a couple seedling projects going myself and thought it would be good to hear about other experiences.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My Experience at Tropical Acres Farm
« on: July 21, 2019, 08:02:14 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I just want to take the time to shout out Tropical Acres Farms for their exceptional service and level of knowledge.  Alex and his mother were a pleasure to work with and he even went out to pick certain varieties for me and everything.  Besides that he was very generous with his knowledge and I truly can appreciate the fact that he gave me some of his time to talk mangoes.  All the Mangoes were top shelf and his Duncans were outstanding.  That property is Ideal for Mangoes and Im not just hyping it up.   Just look at the ground for yourself next time youre there.
I also got a little 3 gallon of something special and I couldnt be more pleased about it.  Alex thank you for what you do for this community and your time.  I will definitely be back for more in no time.

Best Regards,
Alex

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ensey Tropical Fruit Company
« on: July 17, 2019, 07:27:15 AM »
This season Ive gone through multiple farms; private and public.  I've tried imported mangoes from India and Pakistan.

The one group of people I was most pleased with are the Ensey family.  They're a good bunch of people and their genetic pool is insane.  Jeff and Angie sent me a large box of mangoes that had some of the longest shelf lifes ever.  The mangoes were so clean and you can tell they were grown with love.  I havent gone through everything yet but last night I ate a Tyler, a Tywin, and a Orange Delicious.  These people grow CANDY and their proprietary cultivars should be shouted out even thought they dont sell grafted trees.

Hello Everyone,

Wish me luck.  Im working on trying to get Chaunsa & Anwar Ratol Mangoes to sprout.  They were irradiated right before I got them but hopefully I get lucky.

Let me start by saying this was not a cheap project and I want to thank TntRobbie (Roberto) for buying 2 boxes with me to make it a much more affordable venture.

The Chaunsas are a lot more expensive and come with maybe 6 in a box if youre lucky so my chances are slim but I did find a seed with a full root system and it smelled full of life.  I will say the Chaunsa is a mango in a class of its own and its got a very special almost condensed milk with a hint of Mango and lemon smell.  I dont know but all I can say is I understand why people in New York were paying up to $100 per box in when they first started allowing them in the US.  I really hope to get something from this ancient genetic pool.  I know if it sprouts it wont be a clone of the real Chaunsa but genetics like this are priceless to me.

Now for the Anwar Ratol I have to tell you that its definitely something different.  Talk about a real carroty taste.  When you cut into these little potent floral smelling things you see a dark orange flesh that almost makes you think its not a mango.

I brought these with me to the Mango Festival at Fairchild and I had a older Indian gentlemen say to me "sir can I see what you have in the bag it smells so strong compared to the rest of the mangoes here."  I gave them as gifts to special people there.

I have to say its a taste you must acquire.  My Fiancé hated it and she loves mangoes lol.  Again the carroty smell and dark orange color tells me this mango is a carotenoid powerhouse.  I'd love to be blessed enough to work with these genetics in the future as well.  I hope to keep this Journal going for as long as it takes even if it means 5-7 or even 10 years.  Thank you to the makers of this forum because I came from a different world of botany that my family will never approve of and I found my new home here.  Thank you.

Best Regards,

Alex

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Baptiste Mangoes Imported from Haiti
« on: July 15, 2019, 07:53:04 PM »
Hello,

At the mango festival at Fairchild this weekend I convinced them to sell me a box of true Baptiste mangoes.  The reason I started this post is because I have yet to see Baptiste being sold by nurseries that look like these.  I watched a video of a man and his wife saying the mango was horrible and I felt its unfortunate that these folks might not have the true Baptiste and just ruined the chances of this delicious variety.  These are delicious.  I asked the famoly that was here from Haiti at the event and I asked them what the best variety in Haiti is and they all pointed to Baptiste.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone here have Mango Pina from Puerto Rico?

19
Hello,

I think I found at least a 70+ year old tree that is the original Peach Mango.  I promised the older gentleman that once I present this fruit to the community I'll make sure he makes his money off of it because Im not greedy.  I will be grafting it on to seedling rootstock and I will keep you all posted on the progress.  Any oldschool Mango guys on here that confirm this variety?  Its definitely got a true peach flavor to it with a beautiful color to it.  The leaves when broken also give off the potent peach smell to it.

Im looking to order from KingMangos out of Texas but I need to buy a 5 box minimum and thats a little more than I need.  They're about $37 shipped with a 5 box order minimum.  Im looking to keep the seeds but dont want to invest $185 on seeds and a couple fruit.  If I get enough people interested I dont mind paying up front for them and meeting up in South Florida to exchange.  Thanks for reading and have a great day!
