What about over heating? On hot sunny days the pots can become really hot. I notice that I have a lot more issues with small plants growing in small pots than I have with large plants that are in larger pots. I assume the large pots heat up much slower.

We are currently undergoing a heat wave and to protect my plants I have moved them all into a more shadowy place. I have also placed them close together so the canopy can cast a shadow onto the pots below.

@ red durian.

Maybe have you ever seen these species:

I bought some fruits of these 2 species in Indonesia, but unfortunately there was no seeds inside.

If you are interested to exchange seeds/scions, let me know!

I have brought back some plants from Vietnam, India, La Réunion, (mostly Asia) other are from nursery...

Now those look like extraordinary citrus species! Never seen anything like it before! :)

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Citrus limonia "rangpur"
« on: April 22, 2014, 02:19:07 PM »
Many consider Calamondin - Citrus madurensis - as valueable ornamental citrus. But personally I think, the "Rangpur" - Citrus limonia - is much better. It tolerates being potted, tolerates alkaline soils, tolerates all time warm conditions, tolerates small pots... it has nice flowers which are purple tinged and has leaves, that smell of Lemon-Lime if carefully rubbed... Fruits are nice and look like real mandarin-limes, are very acid, stay long on the tree  and the tree can be covered in orange gems...

Why is this plant so underestimated as ornamental, as it has this outstanding beauty?

You make the rangpur sound very interesting to me. That's not a good thing as I'm actually trying to reduce my collection... ::) ;D

I couldn't get rid of the bugs in the tree. And I didn't like the fruits at all. And I needed room for other more interesting citrus trees! ;D

Was there a particular reason why you wanted to root poncirus, or was it just the challenge? They're easy enough to grow from seed! :D

Besides, you've got plenty of citrus which can always make up for the other, not so in the mood, ones. ;D

I have several, but I'm planning to give up some. In fact I already gave up a couple. I cut down the chinotto and the ruby clementine. I could no longer manage the large size of the clementine. It came back nicely after some serious pruning but grew too fast and wide before it even started flowering again, so I killed it :-[. A couple more will follow but I haven't made up my mind on which ones yet.

Looks like you're doing great! Are all those little poncirus plants to be used as rootstock?

Same here... my mandared is producing new flushes but no flowers... :( Luckily my valencia late is full of flower buds, and I needed this as my interest in citrus had reached a serious depth...
Your plants seem to be doing great Grad! Too bad the striped meyer hybrid isn't producing any flowers!
