I noticed among many fruit growers here(no offense I hope)
and also those I personally know seems to think that topping and heavy pruning to manage the height of a tree is acceptable.In addition , agricultural department in my country seems to think it's acceptable.Here fruits trees like rambutan and mangoes are heavily pruned to stimulate better fruiting and manage the tree size.However I found out the opposite is what arborist websites and channels on you tube thought about the practice.According to them topping and heavy pruning shortens the lifespan of trees.I wonder if those arborist could be wrong? Besides most of trees that they deal with are ornamental trees.As for fruit trees there's something that is called economic lifespan and therefore there is no need for the trees to live long.Any thought?

Hi I just came across this article from a Thai site which mentioned that there are bisexual Burmese grapes.According to the site in commercial cultivation only grafted bisexual plants are used.In my opinion the article seems quite accurate but I'm still not 100 percent sure.If it's true it would be great and maybe offer some hope for baccaurea lovers out there

Does anyone in this group cultivate this plant or have tasted it? From what I read it tasted sweet and sour similar to a sweet tamarind.Also it grows in a swamp and enjoys being inundated and is a fast growing plant with the ability to fix nitrogen.Hopefully those who have planted it and tasted it can share more about this plant

This variety of unidentified inga was featured on weird explorer episode of ice cream bean.The episode featured three species of inga which is inga feullei,spectabilis and this unidentified inga.This species was found by jared in bogota and according to the video it has ice cream taste and he recommended it

Hi there can anyone tell me what is wrong with my pineapple plant? The leaves have brown blotches that looks like its being scorched.Everytime it rains it new one appear and the the older blotches gets bigger.Under the brown blotches which is under the leaves have some kind of white powder.I have removed one pineapple plant before.Can anyone id the disease and how to deal with them? This is a sarawak pineapple a variety developed in malaysia

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Leaf turning brown on my red jaboticaba plant

 My red jaboticaba plant has been on the ground for about 2 weeks now.However after several days in the new site i noticed the leaf turning brown.Before i moved it to the ground it was in a poly planter bag and already in full sun without any damage to the leaves.Could the leaf browning be caused by transplant shock,intense sunlight at the new site,nutrient deficiency or pesticide spray? i did spray the plant after finding some ants on the plant.I water the plant using river water and rainwater if it does not rain and the soil is acidic.Just as a precaution i built a shade to protect the plant yesterday.Can anyone here help me on how deal with this issue?

Here are some red jaboticaba seedlings that i planted from seeds that i bought from Oscar.The seeds arrived on 30th September and i straight away sowed the seeds and it sprouted after ten days.http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=21435.msg261728#msg261728    .The seedlings receives full sunlight from morning to 1pm in the afternoon.Since it is the start of rainy season here i dont water them and the seedlings only receives rainwater and we receive lots of rainfall more than 3800mm a year.The pictures are taken today

This is my grafted pulasan seedling that has been planted on the ground for about three weeks.Bought it in the late of August and planted it on the ground after 1 week.At first the tree suffered from sun scorch causing the leaves to turn brown and wilted .Only after i covered the tree with coconut leaves and plastic cover to protect it from  the afternoon sun does it show some progress and the leaf browning stopped

Today the 15 red jaboticaba seeds that I ordered from Oscar had finally arrived.The journey from Hawaii to my hometown in Sarawak located in Malaysian Borneo island took about 9 days which is rather fast considering I opted for the regular air mail.A lot of thanks to Oscar  :D .By the way three of the seeds already have roots sprouting

Hi there can anyone please help identify the species or varieties of jaboticabas in the photos.The photos are from Malaysia and i got it from facebook.The photos originated from sellers and gardening groups from malaysia.From the comment section i got to know all are planted from seeds.The small trees are between 1 to 2 years old and the the fruiting tree is more than 6 years old( As told by the seller and owner in the comment section).Also the seller wrote the small tree will probably fruit in about 4 years
