What disease is this? I believe it might be some kind of bacterial canker but I can’t say for certain? Anyway it’s nasty.. looks like it infected just about every Japanese plum at Lowe’s.. can a plant survive this or will they all succumb? Also the Florida peach varieties seemed unaffected while every Japanese plum has it to some degree.. ?

I have seen these at a lesser extent on some of my trees. They all survived, but look weird...

It looks like black knot disease. Like most fungal diseases, there is no cure, just mitigation.
A lot of trees can tolerate it with no harm, but I would not buy any tree that is already infected.
You may want to point it out to the nursery manager at Lowes. They should also notify the producer...

Will it inhibit tree life or fruit production?? My friend actually bought 2 of those and I told him to return them right away!

Some varieties are fairly resistant, and will still produce but look ugly, like Jaboticaba45's trees. Some varieties will succumb rather quickly. Either way, no reason to buy a three legged horse...

Do you know which varieties are least and most resistant to this?
Also does it only affect Japanese plums, all plums, or all stonefruits?

Michigan State University has a good handout on it.

Bacterial Canker caused in between nature infection and wooden tissue and it will reduce the growth of the plant.
