Glenn mango- ready or not
« on: May 09, 2019, 06:39:12 PM »
Hi all
Are these mangos ready for picking? It is the first year of fruiting for the tree and hence not sure. Any suggestions are welcomed.  Thank you.

nope. Glenn should have a yellowish/bright color and a sweet aroma. It's one of the easiest varieties because it tells you when it's ready to come off.

They smell like sweet peaches when ready, very noticeable and nice.  ...and usually have some color change.

even if they are green, when they smell peachy, probably means ripe and ready for picking.

Definitely getting into Blue Jay and Squirrel ripeness territory, though. If you are starving or have limited fruit set on that tree, I'd consider covering them with an organza or mesh bag. Glenn perfume is irresistable early in the season! And you still have another week or two...

These are a few Glenns right off the tree from back in 2016 to provide some context:
