Temperate Fruit Discussion / Toka Plum in SoCA

I just cut down another rotten apple tree and my wife wants a high quality plum tree.  Some of my upper Midwest coworkers are really happy with their Toka plum, but I can’t find any information about chill hours.  Does anyone have success with this plum in Southern CA?  I have a couple neighboring Aprium trees that perform well.  My hope is that they will serve as suitable pollinators.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rapid Passion Fruit Juicing - Need help

So I got a bumper crop of Passion Fruit this year and need to juice approximately 100 lbs.  My experience with juicing large quantities is that it can be very laborious.  Has anyone discovered a creative way of rapidly juicing passion fruit?  Slicing them open and scooping out the jelly takes hours.  I have tried crushing them with an orange press juicer...no bueno.

I will be in Hawaii (big island) the first week of February and was wondering if Durian are in season. I couldn’t find much info online regarding the season, when and where to buy. Any locals have info?
Also, any fruit farms open to the public worth visiting?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Growing subtropicals under eucalyptus- plant suggestions?

Hello all, I’m looking for suggested subtropical fruiting plants that will survive (thrive?) under a eucalyptus canopy in Southern CA?  I have been unable to find anything that grows well under Eucalyptus of any type here.  I have a fence line that I’m attempting to plant alongside for privacy, so a hedge plant would be ideal, but I am happy to plant large trees as well.  My neighbor’s giant eucalyptus overhang the fence and kill anything planted in its leaf litter.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Flora Farms - A Slice of Heaven in Cabo

The wife and I decided to make a quick trip down to Los Cabos this weekend and celebrate Mexican Independence Day. ¡Viva Mexico!  During our visit we decided to visit Flora farms for a highly recommended farm to table dining experience. For the tropical fruit enthusiast, I spotted many mango trees, banana, pitaya, guava, guanabana, papaya, and many other herbs and fruit.  The property is stunning.  They offer a free site tour (book in advance but we stumbled into one in progress) that walks around the property highlighting the flora and fauna on-site.  Truly a wonderful property and a must-visit while vacationing in Cabo or nearby. They even let us pick a couple tree ripened mangos from their orchard along the tour.  It was one of the best looking and tasting Kents I have personally enjoyed.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Florida Mango Experience and Reviews - June 2022

Alright, finally made it down to south FL for mango procurement and tasting.  This experience was postponed for nearly 3 years due to "The Rona."  Monkeypox be damned, I spent 3 days hunting mangos and other tropical fruit, battling online reservations, driving up and down the coast, and dealing with flight delays and cancellations.  I even bought a gym bag from Goodwill so I could lug nearly 40lbs of mangos home in a carry on, like a goddamn coke dealer.
I will supplement this adventure with reviews of the Mango booty because....why the hell not?  I love it when other people post their opinions, so here are some more from another source.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Tropical fruit in San Diego grocery stores

Found Rambutan at several stores along Mira Mesa over the past week.  They were tasty and only $3 per pound!  Also have seen a lot of Lychees from Mexico for sale that have been hit or miss.  Picked up a box of giant Mexican Keitt Mangos at HMart, 6 for $6. Pretty solid prices right now for seasonal fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Malaysian Red Guava Ripening

I have a couple red guava trees that have been loaded with fruit for several months.  This is their first year beating fruit.  For the last two months, the fruits have stopped swelling, changed color, but remain rock hard. All of my other guava (tropic white and Mexican pink) have ripened and were devoured by December. Is this just a case of continuing to wait?  Do Malaysian reds take longer to ripen?  I assume the our Winter temps in SD have slowed down the ripening process, but I was hoping to benefit from your experience in growing this variety. Thoughts?  Sample guava picts for your viewing pleasure.
