Triumph Persimmon
« on: April 06, 2012, 08:56:50 PM »
Does anyone know where I might get a Triumph persimmon tree?  Pine Island Nursery may carry it.  Any place closer to North Broward?

Check with Excalibur if you haven't as yet. They should have a few different grafted persimmons available.

Yes, Excalibur says they have a few, and Pepe's at the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood sometimes has them available.

What part of posting the pics are you having trouble with? Are the pics already on your computer or do you not know how to get them from your digital camera to the computer?

Okay.  Now you're going to find out what a fossil I really am!  Although we have a digital camera in the house, I stopped using cameras when film cameras became obsolete.  I let my wife and sons take the pictures.  Shameful, right? :-[

You're in prime persimmon country in SO-CAL!  I've eaten many a Hachiya in my youth, even in the ghetto of South Gate, which wasn't a ghetto back then (50's, 60's, 70's).  Neighbors would be like, "Yeah, take 'em.  We don't really like 'em that much." ;D

Hachiyas are great. My wife make great shakes with them; add some condensed milk and they taste like a Mamey batido. Have you tried Saijo? Great taste and texture....it has a caramel, cinnamon taste with very little seeds. South Gate is a beautiful city it in a tough area but I wouldn't call it a ghetto.

Yeah, I should be more charitable towards my hometown, South Gate.  Let's call it a "barrio" instead (with a lot of bars on windows these days).  It sure has a great climate for growing vegetables.  My sister and I had an awesome veggie garden in the 70's, plus the most delicious Babcock peaches in addition to the persimmons and avocados we scavenged for!

I looked up the Wikipedia entry for 'ghetto' and found East Los Angeles listed as an example :-)

East LA is the heart of Los Angeles. Wonderful community with a very rich and long history. My brother happens to have his studio and loft there.

I love L.A.--East to West, and the Valley, too!  And persimmons! ;D
