I just got one at Fruitscapes. It’s fairly large, was in a 15 gallon I think I paid like $135??  I can post a pic if it would help.

That is promising!

35 or so rollinia's ripening here.

Some guanabana here and there.

First flowers on Geffner. Still no fruit.

Also, waiting on San Pablo custard apple that has been flowering well, but no fruit. Mother-in-law is growing this in the rich soil of Hialeah, hopeful.

I’d be happy to trade you a geffner for a rollinia 😎. My rollinia tree is growing like crazy, but not a single bloom.

Keep us posted on how it tastes.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Nitrogen Fixers
« on: August 23, 2019, 05:32:18 AM »
I find invasive species a bit nonsensical. Pioneer species generally start the succession towards a forest on damaged or bare land. Eventually they make way for longer living taller growing climax species. Biodiversity is improved with all the different species that have made there way around the world in recent times and they are greatly trying to fix all the damage humans are doing.

So many nitrogen fixers are serious invasives

Come drive around south Florida where Brazilian pepper and paper bark trees are crowding out almost EVERYTHING!

By the way, parts of the banana flower are edible, look it up.

Yes, cut off the flower. It’s now wasted energy the plant has to use.

For harvesting, I wait until one banana starts to turn yellow before I harvest. It seems to be pretty foolproof.

Fipronil is the best chemical for termites, but I wouldn’t use it if there’s fruit on the tree.

Adding nails to soil isn't natural either!

Har, could you please expand on that?

It was secretly written by Future 😄

I got rid of my mysores. They are just not worth dealing with them. Consider replacing then with thornless blackberries maybe?

Whoever would have guessed that Future would have mango seeds on hand? 😉

« on: July 17, 2019, 09:16:15 AM »
I have a young/ tebow and use them as my freezer mango

The size and quality of the fruit after thawing is a big plus

Can use the glass method to process the fruit for freezing also

We use them for ice cream and cooking

Have mango that tastes better but they never make the freezer

What is the glass method?

+1 on the Pickering.  Excellent fruit in a very productive, compact tree.

Great job. Thank you for doing that. Please post a link to the go fund me page.

Thank you. As I said I have a hog plum. I might have to get a June plum now. Which do you like better?

Your hog plum description is spot on.

17
I have one of each and they are quite different.
I can take pictures of each to share but you can check online as well.
Pine island nursery has both described.

look at june plum here

look at Hog plum under mombin here

I guess I shoulda addressed the above question to you.

18
Has anyone tased Both?  How do they compare?

19
I haven’t had a June plum, but had my first hog plum the other day. Large seed, not a ton of fruit, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was very good.

20
Really tough to say. Did you have to take a mortgage out on one that size?

21
Which would they be and why?

Thanks for all the input. Fruitscapes has already agreed to take it back and let me exchange it for an OS

I doubt you’ll get much grief for wearing women’s clothing as long as you’re carrying that AR 😉

I would add to Khan's post above.  For avocado, I would highly recommend the Super Hass.

For mulberry, I would highly recommend Tice.

why would you recommend Tice over the others?

Taste a Tice Mulberry and you won’t have to ask that 😉

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona 2nd crop article
« on: June 25, 2019, 11:23:46 PM »
Maybe not an article, but a paragraph in the Collier Rare Fruit growers newsletter.

ANNONAS
  - Atemoyas or sugar apples will be ready to harvest b
y August,
September, and October.  There is a trick to have a 2
nd crop in the new year
(out of season).
Pinch off new growth, plus five leaves back on the stem
.  New sprouts will
emerge with flowers.  (Yea Yea!)
To pollinate the flowers, you can use a fine sable brush
 to move pollen from
flower to flower.  Or you can place a small amount of
banana peel or fruit peelings at the
base of the Annona to attract a small hard shell beetle
.  The beetle will at night pollinate
the Annona flowers.
