It is truly amazing to see how resilient old trees, esp. old fruit trees are.

Thank you for sharing the photos. It is really inspiring. Some of the trees have their own stories to tell. I can only imagine how daunting the task of pruning will be, but I am certain, slowly but surely, you will get it all done one beautiful tree limb at a time.

I agree with your Husband that this is a lifetime project. But one that comes with deep fulfillment. I wish you and your family the very best of luck on this great adventure! I enjoy seeing the variations in the two fruitlets and in the leaves. I like the subtle specks of color on the leaves. Your hard work hand pollinating and growing this species on your farm is definitely showing results! Beautiful photos!

Ilama is one species that is truly diverse, having a wide range of phenotypes... They are fascinating.
I wonder sometimes that the ilamas seen thus far are just a scratch on the surface in comparison to the true extent of the diversity of this species in its native range.

Thanks for the advice! I wanted to try it on a watermelon that is not doing particularly well. It is growing, but very very slow and thought the extra root system might help. I changed the soil out mid summer, and the root system is very weak.
I've tried approach graft with mango rootstock, but never tried it on jaboticaba. Yes, mango is much easier to work with, and though I've been successful with cleft grafts on plinias, the approach graft on very small scions might be tricky. I'll let you know how it goes, thank you!

Looks like it's a Cutnut tree - Barringtonia sp.

I'm not sure which species...maybe Barringtonia edulis?
The flowers and leaves remind me of it. Also called yum yum tree.

Looks like a Datura plant...Datura stramonium.
It's also known as Jimson weed, Thorn apple, or devil's snare etc.
It's in the night shade family.

Yes, that's the common names. Is it still flowering? It is just the first flowering and still young, so hopefully it will set fruit the next season. The owner may look at it differently now that he knows he has a very special tree, one that he can use to make "Tejate" or the "Drink of the Gods!"

For those who have Annona crassiflora seedling originated from my seeds, I would like to reinforce the guidance: transplant your seedlings for tall pots (aerial part of plant = 10 cm, use pots with 40 cm tall, or bigger)

It shows that these seeds need very deep pots, and it may also explain why it take so long for it to sprout above ground, as it is spending so much energy developing a strong root system first. Also they don't like wet feet, so place in the best draining soil possible. I hope this helps more growers succeed with this annona! I'd love to hear what others have learnt about this annona.
