I put 4 citrus and one olive tree in the ground last spring. I have been researching for about 2 years on how to get them to survive a winter by using 100 watts of electricity (a string of Christmas LIghts) along with plastic, styrofoam and wood chips. I am actually having a problem with them being to warm. Last night it was 16 degrees and inside my set up it was 62 degrees...as you look at my photo the trees are actually 2 feet below the level of the plastic. i planted them 1 foot below ground level and added 1 foot of wood chips. At 10 cents a kilowatt hr...my lights are running at 100 watts an hour. So basically 1 cent an hour to heat my setupI am unable to access your picture. Could you check your link.

Early ripening is probably going to be important in the selection criteria. A hardy chimera that ripens in February needs just as much protection as a non hardy citrus. If the fruit is frosted severely at least the tree survives if it is cold hardy. No sense in growing hardy trees that loose all fruit every year.
If you mean Cocktailpomelo, this is a very good pomelo. My Valentine on US987 roots died while producing its first fruit. I felt so much better after reading so many arcticals of how mediocre its fruits were. Your statement of excellence just ruined my whole lif. LOLOL
For me only Valentinepomelo and
Tarocco Oranges are still better citrus.
Do you have some type of heat in there? Also a strategy.....I was thinking about wrapping a tree in christmas lights then surround straw or leaves next and possibly styrofoam, bubble wrap or frost cloth on the outside on nights that get below 20 degrees. Anyones thoughts on the order of application?I have to add heat when outside temperature of less than 20F. My currant Greenhouse will have a thermal outlet that turns on at 35F and off at 45F. I will have a used Microwave fan plugged in to blow air from my unheated basement into the GH for heat. My newest pictures.
