Post by: arc310 on September 07, 2018, 02:20:57 PM
have this orange tree in the backyard where the past 2 years or so, this section of the tree keeps splitting it's bark. however sections of it still is trying to grow new leaves.

the other side of the tree seems fine. It has oranges growing right now.

Not sure exactly why...any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

Probably sunburn......that looks like a bad case of it.....painting trunk with water based exterior white paint can help........there is no foliage there to help cover up the trunk.
Go and stand by the tree when the sun is up and you will probably see that ..that side of the tree gets all the sun.......a shade cloth could help as well.....paint it and let time heal.....that is why the other side of the tree is happy !

The damages are worse than what any sunburn could do.

I have a friend here in Perth...a few of his trees show similar carnage......we get 40C here in summer.
Once it starts it opens the door.

Actually, looking at the picture, that half of the tree looks to be very old and  dead, the bark has begun to fall off.  Is there any growth at all on that portion of the tree?
