Tropical Fruit Discussion / Seedless Sapodillas
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:39:05 PM »
I would like to get our forum members' input on this variety or phenomenon. I know there is a seedless variety which I was told it wasn't very good as far the quality of the fruit. However, I was visiting one of my friends grove a few weeks back and to my surprise most of the saps did not have any seeds. Out of eight that I have eaten, only big one had seeds and it was only two seeds. The first ones I ate were medium size and round. None of them had seeds. I thought it was confined to just one tree then I ate a couple that were elongated with a pointy tip at the bottom of the fruit and they did not have seeds as well. All of them are of excellent eating quality. Some more red than other. Some more of cinnamon taste than others. Does pollination play a role in the amount of seeds that sapodillas produce???

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's up with the cool weather in SoCal???
« on: August 11, 2013, 10:45:57 AM »
For those of you in SoCal it has been very cool in a summer which it was predicted to be one of the hottest one.  Have you experienced the unusual cool weather in your area??? I have NDM which is flowering right now. Could this be caused by the unseasonably cool weather???

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need help identifying this problem
« on: December 17, 2012, 08:58:12 PM »
I have noticed in the last month or so some damage to some of my plants. I am hoping someone here in the forum can help me diagnose the problem and give me some suggestions on how to prevent it or get rid of the source of the problem. Here are some pics:

Sugar Apple

Passion Fruit

Plumeria

Whatever is causing this problem completely destroyed another Annona and heavily damaged some of my citrus plants. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What I picked yesterday
« on: November 08, 2012, 10:07:59 AM »
Just want to share with  you some pics of my yard plus some of the fruits that I picked from it and some that I picked from Eunice's. Hope you like them.

Updated: Unknown banana thought to be Manzanos earlier this week

Pomegrantes

My everbearing fig tree. It is grafted with three or four varieties of figs. The ones I remember are Panache Tiger Fig, and Kadota.

My Platano Burros continue to produce.

Sugar Canes. I know some are old but I like the look.

What I picked yesterday. Poms, a small Cherimoya, some figs, Manzanos, and a Sweet Tart mango that the gardener knocked off. >:(

Some of the fruits that I picked from Eunice's place. Carambola, Carnival Mango, Edwards, Thompson, and Manila. Thanx Eunice and JF.

Carnival mangos up close. Gorgeous fruit.

Hope you enjoy these pics from SoCal.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Store Bought Mangoes
« on: October 10, 2012, 11:31:46 AM »
About a week ago I bought a box of six mangoes from Costco. These were Keitts from Mexico. I thought they were very good. Although they were very green and hard, one of my friends told me that they were very nice. So on his suggestions I bought them and I am glad I did. Within a few days, the Keitts started to turn slightly yellow at the base and smelling very sweet. As of now, I have eaten most of them except one and they were sweet, juicy, no fiber. I shelled one of the seeds and one of them had already grown some rooots. Yesterday, I stopped by Costco again and they had these beautiful Tommy Atkins from Brazil. I have bought these in the past, and although, not nearly as good as the Kents, and the Keitts that I have bought at Costco before, they have been sweet but have lacked in taste. So to satisfy my desire for Mangoes, I bought a box of eight. I will see how these TA's turn out.

Here is a pic of my only Keitt left and the TA's
