« on: March 28, 2023, 08:37:17 AM »
I will post a photo of the guarana Mother, and it is huge. 5ft wide
I will pot up some cuttings to be available in 4 months if there is any interest. I see none for sale on eBay or Amazon/
If you are a super enthusiast, you can dig up and take the entire plant for $500.  ----   954____ 715 ______ 1950

This plant has seeded and produced the fruit you can see on the internet. The lowest temps in the last ten years have done nothing to it. Bought at Bender's Grove.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: One time use Chelated Iron EDDHA
« on: March 24, 2023, 06:39:33 PM »
You can buy iron sulfate at ebay/amazon. I have some. Mix it in water with wettable sulfur to make a chealte for alkaline soils/ ________ If your trees are well mulched with wood chips. Sprinkle this iron on top of the mulch. It should chelate into the mulch. Unless heavy rains wash it down. Or make a compost of this iron with wood chips.

Try using this the same way  https://southernag.com/product/essential-minor-elements-granular-formulation/     ----- and-----

Let all Carambolas get past ripe. The best ones are the drops. Also peel off/ slice off all the green ridges and ends. They are the most astringent parts

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Finally some rain in South Florida
« on: March 20, 2023, 12:21:59 AM »
Basically no rain in three months. My lawn needs this! Mango trees too. The trees need some water or you get more fruit drop-offs. I even watered my trees last week, which I never do. Rain is life, so good to see California getting rain bomb after rain bomb. With reservoirs getting filled.

Let it rain, rain, rain"

Plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line

From Alex:
Grade 4/ Difficult Will flower inconsistently unless they receive multi-week cold fronts. Usually very unprecocious. Sweet Tart, Alphonso, Mulgoba, Peach Cobbler, Bombay

Not much cold this year. My sweet tart had excellent bloom and many small mangoes now. It is 11 years old. So maybe age is a factor. It had tremendous production in 2021. Nothing much in 2022

209cc?

And I thought my 195cc Briggs/Toro mower was the big dog.  ;D

In 2008 I bought a 190cc Briggs / Troy-bilt mower, this lasted a long time. I am fairly sure yours has the same size Briggs 190cc. That 190cc really took care of business on my lawn. Same  for mulching mango tree trimming into the lawn. It would take care of all the grass quickly on my friend's huge lawn in a gated Coral Springs community.

190cc is optimum for me. When I go into Home Depot I see electric lawn mowers featured. Then the gasoline powered lawn mowers are steps down from 190cc. They are 163cc or 143cc. With no 190cc mowers for sale.... Though I see some on the HD website to order along with a 170cc Honda at $549 with very good ratings >>>>  Customer Review4.6 out of 5 with 6,300 ratings and reviews  >>>>>  https://www.homedepot.com/p/Honda-21-in-3-in-1-Variable-Speed-Gas-Walk-Behind-Self-Propelled-Lawn-Mower-with-Auto-Choke-HRN216VKA/314013158  (free shipping to home or store)

A significant number of people I believe are scared of the Monster Mower described by Zands "The Lawnmower will drag you. Is DANGEROUS. You will pull a hammy, tear and ACL and fall down::: posted 8/18/22
Posted 8/27/22: "The mower would rise up in front when the propelled handle was partially in service". "You actually had to run to keep up with it."
Posted 7/27/22: "It runs away and difficulty to control".
Posted 9/2/22::: "Once going, the self propelling mechanism is all or nothing. And "all" is very fast. You can attempt to hold it midway, but it is awkward..... Maybe a strip of velcro to hold  it at the level you want might do the trick."

This CCP mower is a rear wheel drive/ self propelled mower. If you lift the front wheels a bit, then it does move fast! You must run it with all 4 wheels touching the ground. Then the speed is same as American mowers, that have decks that rust to death within five years.

When you make a turn, let go of the self propel bar. Then you will have no runaway lawnmower. So make the turn. Then resume the self propelled...which goes at a moderate, non- adjustable pace.

Expect it to last just until after the warranty expires. I found an infinite warranty glitch, I use a credit card which adds an extended warranty. When the thing breaks down, the credit card company refunds it after I file a claim with documentation of the product failure, the catch is you have to re-purchase the item or something of equal or lesser value to replace it lol. The warranty resets since it's a new purchase.

Thanks. What card did you use?
I just looked at extended warranty for the card I used. It gets me an additional year past the manufacturer's warranty. The warranty on this mower is three years. I have no idea how reliable this warranty is. Though in the box they included two pages on the warranty, that I will read.

With this mower, I bought 2 years Walmart warranty coverage, that comes via Allstate. $16.

Rust killed my Troy Bilt's deck. Honda makes mowers with plastic decks. So no rust! I saw a used one on Craig's List. Was $350 or so. But did not pursue it

John:
That's why we have landfills--to fill them with cheap Chinese junk.  Pity the poor countries that don't have landfills, but then the stuff eventually ends up in the oceans.  Then pity the fish and, oh yeah, everyone.

China, Indonesia and others are polluting the oceans with discarded plastic bags.

They found that China and Indonesia are the top sources of plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish clogging up global sea lanes. Together, both nations account for more than a third of plastic detritus in global waters, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The original source data can be found here.

Personally I think it's not right to categorize items by where they come from; it seems to be a schematics issue. Unless I'm missing something PowerSmart is a US company anyway?

tho I will say, given the 92 1-star reviews that all detail the flawed front axle design I'd rather spend a little more

Where are these reviews?  Amazon? PowerSmart is located in Illinois. Where my mower was shipped from. The YouTube reviews are solid.

My Orange Sherbet has not flowered since being planted in the ground maybe a little over 5 years now?? Very saddening to say the least.. I’ve not had any good experiences with Orange Sherbet whether it was my tree or not

My OS was planted 3 years ago, has been a fast n steady grower. But no bloom this year, while my other mango trees are doing well. I have a nutritional plan for my OS, for this growing season.

44
Rainman, you can criticize China, but did you see how my American made rusted to death in five years? The steel deck must have been awful quality. The rust peeled off in layers and large flakes from underneath/

Honda lawnmowers starting at $829.

Sony used to be made in Japan. Now even Japanese brands are made in China. They are still good products but not as good as when it was Japanese made.

More like made in Thailand, Asia and China.

5 years ago I bought a Troy Bilt mower w Briggs Stratton engine. The engine has always been easy to pull start and seems improved from previous years. But the deck rusted and cracked within 5 years. This became unusable last month. I was pissed!

So I figured give the Chinese a shot. So far so good. And self propelled.Walmart is easy 90 days return if you don't like it. ---  https://www.walmart.com/ip/PowerSmart-209CC-engine-21-3-in-1-Gas-Self-Propelled-Lawn-Mower-DB2194SH-with-8-Rear-Wheel-rear-Bag-Side-Discharge-and-Mulching/193485183?athbdg=L1100

This is a 209cc monster engine. So for me at least, I can now take mango tree prunings and trimmings, take those mango tree leaves and soft green stems and soft green branches and mulch them back into my lawn. So an easier disposal of these, plus my lawn gets nutrition.

Important -- run this first for 60 minutes. If the oil looks dirty, discard it and put in new oil. The famous (1000 reviews) Harbor Freight vertical shaft lawn mower engines from China. They are Honda clones...... The comment section there said to do this with the engine oil. They claimed due to metal shavings in the oil. That China can clone a Honda engine, but not to Japanese tolerances.

Try running this mower with the usual 87 octane gasoline that has 10% ethanol.
Then run it on 89 octane with zero ethanol. I bought some at Wawa.
It runs better on ethanol free. My guess is that gasoline in China has zero ethanol. They are not going to take corn that you and animals eat and use it to power internal combustion engines. This would be crazy, and only something that Americans would do :)

This Chinese mower is horizontal shaft with a gearbox. And rear-wheel drive

YouTube has three or more videos demonstrating this 209cc mower.
More details on this Chinese mower if  people express interest

Has anyone had luck turning their tropical fruit into a beer, wine or liquor?  If so, what did you use and how did it turn out?  I was thinking about maybe trying to make something from persimmon (fuyu or fully ripened astringent variety) or maybe loquat.  I know someone has to have made mulberry wine here lol.  How about a Jabo wine? Mmmm!

It must be 5 O'clock somewhere

Hi
I want to grow citrus in a pot. My soil is too high pH.  Or can I plant it in my soil and apply enough wettable sulfur to bring down  the pH?

Thanks

Turmeric is a much better and nicer looking (foliage) planting than ginger/ Swing by Mi Campo Farmer’s Market (Tamarac) at $4 a pound. Plant in at least one pound plantings. 1/2 pound was, worked out, not that good. I would do a 2lb planting these days. My turmeric foliage is lovely. Images upon request.
