Iv read it's a pear or something like that and they grow it in a mold. Don't know if that's the truth but I did read it somewhere

Yup it's a molded pear. Some people really believe it though. I've had a Chinese nursery guy try to sell me some. They don't seem to have snopes over there and have lots of this sort of stuff in chain emails or the equivalent of re-tweets.
