Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango tree question
« on: June 24, 2019, 11:47:30 AM »
Hi.  I am in to 2 full season with my mango tree.  I am getting lots of mangos.  But they are small and stringy.  They are also ripening in June / July.  This is supposed to be a Beverly and a late bloomer.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango Tree (not as expected) Question
« on: June 21, 2018, 02:26:49 PM »
Hey everyone.  I planted a Beverly mango about two years ago for a late season variety.  The tree is now about 8ft tall with a 4-5 in trunk.  This year is my 1st real crop, quite heavy in fact.  The tree is dropping fruit early and I decided to cut some open.

All of the early fruit I have cut have tons of fiber and very stringy, when the variety is supposed to be fiberless.  i am trying to determine why the fruit has so much fiber?

Thanks in advance.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grasses Stunt Fruit Tree Growth?
« on: February 03, 2017, 02:04:47 PM »
I was reading an older book recently and the author mentioned in passing about planting grasses (fountain, etc.) near fruit trees.  He didn't go into any detail but wrote kind of "matter of fact" that it was a bad idea.

I am in South Florida (zone 10) and my wife loves grasses.  Are there any reasons to not plant grasses near my fruit trees.  Are grasses considered anti-companion?

Thanks in advance.
