Staggered germination just over two months of red flesh acerola. A unique variation of acerola endemic to Vieques.

Super cool, maybe try cuttings with rooting gel like cloneX? Hows the taste?
Regular acerola flesh reminds me of a mealy Red Delicious apple. These are sour but more like a cranberry and very juicy. They are excellent blended whole with the seeds to create a dark pink juice. During the dry season the fruits will dehydrate on the tree and you can pick them off and reconstitute in water.

The white flesh types are under rated. Their flavors have a larger
range than there are colors in the colored flesh types it seems.

I have grown some that are slightly different than the original fruit and some
that seem true to seed. The Deep Purple type seems true to seed as all the other trees appeared and tasted like duplicates. A white flesh seed produces white flesh fruit as many have experienced. There is a wide range of phenotype and taste range among ilamas and I am curious what seeds of naturally occurring hybrids would produce and how often that occurs in areas with a concentration of a wide range of phenotypes, flower colors, leaf shape and color/s.

I’m not sure if it’s a regional name where I’ve had those but they would call those in particular anona Caribe or something like that. The skin also has a purple tone like the flesh, at least the ones I’ve seen.
I have white flesh types that can easily compete with and surpass some colored flesh types. When I was in Oaxaca I had a chance to try around eighty different types. Only the best out of those are being offered.

They are quite good. This type has a grey/powdered blue skin. The flesh turns deep purple and is hard to distinguish from grape jelly around the inside of the peel. Another unique feature is that when opened and placed in full sun you can watch the color change rapidly.

« on: June 02, 2022, 04:25:32 PM »Hey there...They have shipped fine to Texas so far. If they drop the leaves they will push new growth easily with proper care, although I haven’t had that issue yet. As with any shipping I have no control over local practices. I can say these trees do fine in my high heat and extreme dry Caribbean growing conditions
How well do these hold up during shipping with high temps? In TX and current temps are mid 90s to low 100s.

The Seeds Hunter is a solid seller. I have placed many orders and everything has been packaged well and arrived in excellent condition. I have also had high germination rates with his seeds. I have not received any old seeds or any molded seeds. Easily one of the best sellers out there.

They were actually my first go-to. Unfortunately, they advised that they lost both plants (and, tragically, much of their collection) to the hurricanes.

I found my photo from last year of what I was told is a Piña mango. I bought them from a guy on the sidewalk near a local tienda. I don’t know where the tree is located. We made some delicious kulfi.

I had a green chewy grouped with red, purple and pink squamosas. This could be a chance cross. It has a chewy texture.

Jonah, I used its own pollen. It seems that they are receptive at night around 10:00 pm in my location. Keeping the soil wet when it is flowering also seems to help. My tree is grafted onto Rollinia/Biriba.
