This variety of Plinia coronata is one with a bright future!

I have just a few seedlings left, price range $50-60, about 2yr old, approx 12-16 inch tall, with nice branching.

(I will be selling grafted trees, possibly later this year)

Here are the details:

-A rare variety of Plinia coronata that grows in a very hot, coastal region of Brazil (so it's extremely heat tolerant, and even tolerant of planting near the sea...most Plinias suffer near the ocean)

-the tree is precocious, reportedly fruiting in about 5-8yr from seed, unlike most varieties of Plinia coronata, that can take 15-20 yr to fruit.

-Plinia coronata var. Restinga is smaller than most varieties of Plinia coronata, most of them are very tall, growing over 30ft in Brazil.  This variety is compact, and can easily be kept under 15ft tall indefinitely, with proper pruning.

-the fruits are large, with thin skin, and sweet pulp.

thanks a bunch!

yes nullzero is right, that plant is entirely different.

Plinia coronata is a species that has many forms...the variety "restinga", is the one I'm talking about.

The restingias I have, have a different growth form and have foliage that is oddly more hirsute and shiny than my other coronate seedlings.

I think you will be one of those who popularizes this variety in Australia!  I can already see you spreading seeds and scions!

it's going to be a great asset for Australian fruit growers, especially those in very hot, coastal regions.

I will be interested to hear how they perform, (compared to Sabara, and Grimal)

I will try to do the same from the European side... also have 2 of these here with more or less 1 foot tall and growing nicely... how about a world contest to see which one of us can fruit this one first?... Adam & Mike are you in?... any other competitors?...any bets???

I have an unfair advantage, because I have about 10 trees, all about 3-4ft tall, 3.5yr old.

Jabomano reported some flowers on one of his trees about 5-6ft tall in a 15 gal pot, but the blooms never fully formed...

Adam you may be surprised at how many species and varieties that I have spread around Queensland already.I have received seeds from a few sources and some I only know the Brazilian name, and a few I have multiple varieties of a few. My perceived best ones I kept and planted are scarlet. restingia coronate, phytrantha, red hybrid and a few others like vexator and white also have good spots.I gave away all my dubias, most truncifloras, grandifolras  and yellow sand one one I forgot its name and others. Hopefully they will become established here.

I can vouch on the heat tolerance. I have one growing in a pot, and it hit 116f+ here last week and it didn't mind it at all.

Hey raimeiken! Cool!!
Where did you get the plant from? Or is it a seedling? (in that case, where did you get the seeds from), thanks!

Adan can you confirm that the foliage is more hirsute, shinier and elongated on the tips than other varieties of coronata? Some of my tags are hard to read beyond species level where I put varieties. Pencil rather than permanent markers are better for labelling.

Sounds right...but to be safe upload a pic of the foliage (fresh and mature).

The easiest way for me to distinguish the restinga coronata is by the position of the leaves, they seem to be closer to a 90deg angle, rather than 45 (like the common coronata)
