Protecting a tree from my dog
« on: April 25, 2019, 06:14:23 AM »
After a lot of work  trying to relocate the apple tree from the front of my house to plant an Albizia ,my dog wasnt happy about the move and he digged out 2 Albizias Julibrissin. The first one wasnt fenced and to the second one he jumped inside the tree cage and dig it out wich led me to come up with this radical tree cage, at least until the tree gets big enough or the dog gets used to it.

Mine are a bit better now, but they were monsters for destroying anything newly planted.

I used a hot/electric wire to stop them. Little solar powered energizer on a star picket. It was fairly expensive at the time but I have used it so much since, very flexible.

I've thought about doing something like this in the future if needed to keep 'possums and raccoons out of my trees. I don't have electric service out there, so was hoping I could find something solar.

We have used hot wires to protect flower beds, etc for years.  Friend uses one around his small pond to keep out raccoons.  There are solar ones and battery operated ones.  Dogs become conditioned to just the wire after a few shocks.  Cattle know when it is on or off.

No fear of electrocute someone near the water? How many volts?
