Ok here we go.

Been ultra busy touring with friends from Bermuda so didn’t have time to post.  As an intro since Wednesday we’ve hit 10 different spots...epic back to back to back mango mania.  Where?  Tropical Acres. Truly Tropical. Zills Fruit Stand. Excalibur. Zills Nursery. Sleepdoc’s. Cookie Monster’s.  Richard Campbell’s (twice).  Mango Snob’s private tasting.  Fruit and Spice Park / University of Florida Mango Mania event and tasting.  It’s been nothing short of insane.  What did we score?  Soon come...

2019 blessed me with the company of Carlos and Mel, both travelling from Bermuda.  We arrived together at Miami airport, got our rental car and headed north, stopping for lunch at Holi Vegan Kitchen.  As we drove, I primed them on the day's plans.  Mel is also known as the assassin because he's deadly quiet.  Born in Jamaica, he's worked on Carlos' farm for 16 years.  I probed him to find out what mangoes he enjoys.  No surprise, he favoured Julie, East Indian and Haitian mangoes but said he loved mangoes so much he ate whatever was placed in front of him.

I chuckled, advising that after this trip was over, his days of enjoying Haitian mangoes would likely be as well.

He chuckled, politely disagreeing.

We arrived at Tropical Acres and as I predicted, a line up at the gate had already commenced.  We were 3rd in line.  Upon descending from our car his face lit up.  Bee line for crate upon crate Alex and his crew had waiting.

I headed for the premium crates and scored so real beauties plus a few Alex hand picked for us.  Next thing I knew, Mel was absolutely crushing a mango.

No table.

No chair.

No plate.

No knife.

No napkin.

No peeling.

Just standing there crushing it like Godzilla.

Juice flew.  An ear to ear smile beamed.  I was amazed.  My man was serious about enjoying mangoes.  This was a heck of a way to start our buying spree.

To be continued...

Dinner yesterday: Mekong, Nam Doc Mai Sia Tong, Coconut Cream

Mekong is a poly mango I picked up from Alex.  You can read all about it here (https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/mekong).  David Sturrock breeding efforts brought forth this Edward x Philippine cross and it does indeed delight.  Firm, dense and fibreless.  Mid range sweetness with piney hints that complement it well.

Nam Doc Sia Tong I ate fairly firm.  It tastes essentially just like Nam Doc Mai.  Eaten at this stage increases complexity beyond simple sweetness.  A good choice mango.

Coconut Cream have been amongst the best this year.  Of the 200 mango varieties we indulged in 5 days - seriously - Carlos rated it #1.  Mel #2.  It ha sbeen better than Lemon Zest, PPK, Sweet Tart, ZINC and even E4.  Very few have been clean outside but my God the fruity smell inside invites, the two tone dark and light yellow flesh intimates and the first bite leaves the tongue wagging.  CC has been delightful.  5 days of mango mashing mania and we tired not of it.

Coconut Cream wins dinner.

Dessert: Zebda, E4

Alex has meticulously detailed Zebda's background here (https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/zebda).  Egyptian origin with a Thai background, its fairly small and this one was already soft, probably a day or two late to eat.  Nonetheless is was actually ok, definitely sweet, definitely fibreless.  But couldn't fairly rate in this condition.  Solid green outside when ripe would certainly deter two legged thieves...

E4 has been among the best mangoes in 2019.  For me, Sugarloaf ranks at #9 all time.  The ones I had prior were not at their peak but this one was close.  Two tone light and dark yellow inside, melting flesh, wonderful aroma and just sweet coconutty heavenliness.  Again, solid green skin when ripe might make for arduous picking but the thives would at least have to second guess.  E4 cruises to dessert victory.

Breakfast: Maha Chanok, Angie, Fruit Punch

Maha is an all time great.  This one had an interesting spiraling black patch and skin partly going off.  But inside is was perfect.  Firm.  Dense.  Good aroma and subtle flowery sweetness.  For those intimidated by sickly sweetness from the new fangled Zill releases, the classic Maha offers respite.  It was good i ate it first because....

Angie I ate firm as recommended by posters here.  Strikingly beautiful reddish orange speckled skin conceals yellow gold inside.  Stronger aroma than Maha, just as dense but much more flavor.  Is it top tier?  For a true snob, no.  But second tier is no insult.  I really enjoyed Angie and can see how it is being actively pitched as the north america Alphonso substitute.  On its own, eaten firm, you'd have no complaints.  But i followed it with...

Fruit Punch.  My, my, my.  We only scooped two this year and man were they good.  Spotted blackening skin covered immaculate yellowy orange fleshed.  Even denser than Angie.  Even more aromatic than Angie.  Even sweeter than Angie.  Definitely more complex flavor.  Had I eaten this first, well, yea... it closed out breakfast strong.  Its been a while since i had it in promised form and today was that day.

Fruit Punch, hands down, wins breakfast.  Yes, it delivered the knockout.

On the table we have Mun Khun See, Taralay, PPK, Philippine, E4 and Sweet Tart...

I enjoyed the m-10 very much. It has that perfumey (don’t know what else to call it)flavor that I really enjoy it’s  the reason I planted “Providence”. From my notes I think harvest moon also had this perfumey flavor but not sure this was 2 years ago. My friend who sampled the m-10 described that perfumey note like the Valentine’s Day candy hearts (sweet hearts candy)

My late lunch defined ridiculousness.

Lunch: Mun Khun See, E4, Po Pyu Kalay

For those note familiar, Mun Khun See is among the few mangoes that get sweet when unripe, green and crunchy.  Sleepdoc procured it years ago from F&S Park and I've had the pleasure for a few years to enjoy it.  The only other mango i've had that's similar is Mammou.  MKS though is different in that at every stage it presents a different story.  Constant sweetness is greeted by progressive ripening, and less crunch, more smoothness.  This one was ripe.  Bright yellowness inside introduced a pleasant Nam Doc Mai like flavour, silk.

E4 continue to consistently please with fruity, coconutty tones.  The contrasting light and dark yellow inside seem to foretell its gustatory pleasures.  The first cut brings a syrupy juice flowing to the plate.  The first bite rains more.  Light, floral and pleasing, its simply superb and difficult to fault.  Similarity to Coconut Cream rings true.  Green skin was half blackened but interestingly, flesh remain delectable all the way to it.  Bonus points.

Po Pyu Kalay brought this meal to an appropriate apex.  This one was dark orange, potassium rich, and the smell was like an orange.  Oh, and like E4, also a juice factory from the first cut.  Must be strange to someone never having the pleasure to enjoy a citrus flavoured mango to see it raved about.  But at its peak, PPK isn't just an all star.  Its a first ballot hall of famer.  Sweet citrusy silk leads the mind to a higher level few mangoes can.

Tough choice between E-4 and PPK.  E-4's bonus points for staying intact despite outer tarnish gives it the nod.

Coming soon: Taralay, Pineapple Pleasure, Yi Xuan

Dinner: Gary, Taralay, Yi Xuan

Our 3rd stop on our 2019 mango tour was Walter and Verna Zill's Fruit Stand.  Walter is a walking encyclopedia.  If you want to know about grafting techniques used in the 1930s, Walter can tell you.  My man Carlos is a master grafter and dove right in with Walter.  How to do a bottle grafts.  How to select budwood for  bud grafting mangoes.  Watch these two go at it and you could almost see the sparks flying from their heads.

Meanwhile, Verna was flirting with me.

Ok, well, let my explain.  When a woman says "Abayomi, I have a box of mangoes with your name on it" it could be interpreted as being after a man's heart.  (Later that day, the ladies at Zill Nursery were after my heart too but that's a story for another day).  So I advised Walter and he gave Verna his consent, but only after he leaves this earth.  Given his unparalleled depth and breadth of knowledge, let that day take its time.

"Abayomi is a nice name for a mango".  So said a customer the day before we arrived at the fruit stand.  (She thought my name tag was for a mango, not the box.)  Perhaps she is a prophet, I dunno.  But given the politics behind all these mango names - and there is lots there - I'll skip that one too.

Back to mangoes.  Verna pulled out some new stuff for me including Brite Bite.  But no sign of Yi Xuan.  BSbullie brought it to the forum's attention some years ago and I've been seeking it since.  Walter told me in 2018 that it tends to split on the tree and thus he didn't favor it.  I brought it up again and he said he had intent to chop the tree down due to the splitting issues.  Wandering around, rummaging through odds and ends...boom...he finds the last Yi Xuan.

Its big, like Pineapple Pleasure size.  Verna advised letting it go a bit before eating but also confessed, she sees nothing special about it and wondered why BSB liked it so much.  I was in heaven, having dreamed of this mango for months.

So this eve, I see it developing spoilage at Yi Xuan's stem end and decide its time.  A slice revealed dark yellow flesh.  It was firm silk.  First taste and yes, I have to agree with BSB - this is worthy of attention.  Sweet.  Dense.  It reminded me of a blend of Bombay's density with Pineapple Pleasure's flavor profile (fruity but not as pineapply).  Almost as thick as cheese.  I know Squam has it among his collection but will put in a call anyway...save the tree....

Gary was a runt but what little was there was pretty good.  Not much to say.

Taralay was going too far on ripeness but her smooth texture somewhat redeemed.  Not super sweet but pleasing.  Beautiful pink blush on one side, not something I see often with it, usually all yellow.

All told, for what may be Yi Xuan's last...it placed first.

Tomorrow sees Pineapple Pleasure, Dupuis, Florigon, Hindi Bessanara, Sugarloaf, Jehengar, Brite Bite, PPK and maybe Phoenix.

Interested in the Taymour review,  I am assuming this is the same as Taimor , from Egypt, a green ripening mango.  I tried a couple a few years ago, and they were very good.

How is your Providence doing?  Have you had much fruit?  How has it tasted?  Is MBBS an issue?  (I planted it because I wanted an improved Kent, but so far no fruit.)

My tree is still small, only planted in ground last year. It had one fruit on it this year. I have left it on to see if it makes it. But the tree looks good and the fact it fruited makes me think it’s headed in the right direction.

As for fruit and flowering not in the best spot in my yard. I’m hopeful it will be good tree cause I enjoyed the late season fruit very much when I sampled from Walter.

This was last year when I planted I will try to get a new pic of this year.

Spoke to Walter to thank them fro the Yi Xuan and make my bid to save the tree.  He said he won't cut it down anytime soon.  In addition to Squam, Yi Xuan is also being trialed in California.  Peter has it.  We'll see if their drier climate allows the splitting to subside.  (JF - can you convince Peter to become a forum member?)

Walter also expressed his love for Beatrice.  Even falling of the tree with black spotted skin, its high quality flavor surprised him.   I have one that should be ready in the next day or so.  Like Yi Xuan, its a pretty big mango.  Walter advises a piece can be sliced to sample and just leave it another day if it isn't ready.

Meanwhile Pineapple Pleasure, Brite Bite, Kryptonite and Sugarloaf are calling me to breakfast.

Lunch looks like Guava, Dupuis Saigon, Cac and Ice Cream.

Sverona Rheka, Angie, Jehengar are in the wings...

Breakfast: Kryptonite, Brite Bite, E4,Pineapple Pleasure, Guava

I have a friend from Ghana who is part of the traditional chieftaincy there.  He instructs the people in his village to eat at least 200 mangoes each mango season in order to access and store essentially a year's worth of beta carotene.  I'm not in Ghana but beta carotene is in me...

Kryptonite was gone too far.  Mushy on one side and funky.  I took a bite on the firm side and while its potential was there, the smell from the funky side was too much.  Trashed.

Brite Bite is a working title for Walter Zill's latest selection.  I am bathing in mango aroma, permeating the house.  From my morning's first breath til the night's last, its pure pleasure.  We adjust to persistent aroma by tuning it out and thus leaving and returning reminds how strong it is.  Thus when I cut a mango and its aroma strikes, its noteworthy.  BB struck this morning.  Beautiful red coloration hides bright yellow firm flesh inside.  Medium sized mango is highly aromatic.  Reminds of melon.  The taste follows the smell and while it may not break my top 50, don't let that throw you off.  If you can get one, try a brite bite.  As the name suggest, it has a sharp awakening flavor.  Good mango.

E4 have been amazing this year.  This one was no different.  Its the light fruitiness and syrup factory inside that causes one to fall in love.  Its a mango made with friends in mind.

Only one Pineapple Pleasure in my collection this year.  For me its a top 12 mango.  Rare to find such acidity with sweetness.  Big mango, firm, clean.  I thoroughly enjoyed this.  I was certain it would win the meal until...

I decided to add a mid-sized Guava mango to the mix.  Clean and in prime shape.  My first for the year and it reminded me why it makes my top 20.  Incredible aroma.  Faultless flesh.  Silk.  And then there's the creaminess.  It should be unlawful for a mango to be this good.

Pineapple Pleasure was oh so close but Guava wins.

Lunch looks like Cac, Jehengar, Dupuis, Guava and Ice Cream.

Didnt see your review on sweet tart in your post above where you covered Mun Khun See, ppk and E4. What were your thoughts on it? Grafting over a tree to sweet tart now.

So far Sweet Tart have been moderately good. Small this year, good firm dense flesh but not exceptionally sweet. Still have a few more. Normally top 5 for me but not punching hard this year.  Even LZ hasn’t been it’s usual self so...

Hey Future,

Have you eaten any P-22 this year and what were your thoughts if so?

-Joep450

P-22 has been the bomb. Talked to Gary Zill about it and I think it has the same parents as Kryptonite, Venus. (Memory could be wrong). It’s been a few years and the few I had confirmed my memory. It’s a star choice. Big, juicy, sweet. Not the prettiest m outside but who cares.

Yi Xuan is outstanding. Hopefully we have better luck with it regarding the splitting but not holding my breath.

First bite reminded of Cotton Candy, a top 3 mango for me.  It’s that sweet.

Future,

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get Suvarna Rekha?  Do you have budwood available?  I'd love to buy some.

Best regards,
Scott

There’s a really cool dude named Alex....

LOL!  I know :-)  I didn't realize he had this one.  Thanks!

If you've run out of yard space or have no budget for another tree, you might want to skip this post.

Dinner: Apricot, Beatrice, Dupuis Saigon, Cac

Word to the wise: If Walter Zill says he is pleasantly surprised by a new to him mango's taste, pay attention.  Beatrice was first on the plate this eve.  Its a big mango (think Pineapple Pleasure size) with a mottled greeny/orange skin.  Probably 30% blackened skin and a bruise and split on one side.  Inside, yellow with some orange hints.  Fairly dense.  Positively sweet.  But its the flavor than wins your heart.  It has shades of fruit punch, but more subtle that FP at its peak.  no idea where the name came from.  But Beatrice is sexy.  I emphatically enjoyed it and thought I picked the wrong one to start with until....

Dupuis Saigon was also blackened and somewhat soft on one side.  But the good side was great.  Now I remember how it earned a spot in my top 20.  Honey melon like flavor, juicy, fibre free and just a gorgeous yellow pillow of sugar.  No idea why people pronounce Dupuis like Dupree but my gracious, when a mango is this good, call it whatever you want.  Pure delight.

Cac has earned top 12 status for me.  This one was deep orange inside, also spotted outside.  Yellow orange flesh looks like a dream.  If you want to start a just factory, Cac just might be the go to mango.  Seriously.  Justy cutting it left a syrup pool on the plate.  It was a shade over ripe to be fair but I had to rate Dupuis ahead on this day.

Apricot is a new Walter Zill offering and either autosuggestion works or it does taste like...Apricot.  Small, fibreless and also yellow inside.  I've enjoyed a few but they seem mild after following this crowd.  On its own I'm sure its enjoyable.

So, Apricot brings up the rear.  Cac a solid 3rd.  Beatrice may have won handily eaten a day earlier.  But by a hair's width, the night belongs to Dupuis Saigon.

Dinner: Sverona Rheka, Jehengar, ST Maui, Sugarloaf

Sverona Rheka is new to me.  Small.  Seed takes up most of the space.  Ultra fibreless.  Nothing offensive but flavor doesn't grab.  Its an ok mango but generally would have to wow for having low flesh to seed ratio.

Jehengar was also small.  Mine was a light green skinned wrinkled granny outside.  Surprisingly, the flesh inside looked under-ripe.  Almost white.  Just hinting yellow.  It tastes better than it looks.  Blinded, you would swear it was a Sugarloaf.  Alas, tiny fruit with substantial seed makes it a poor substitute but otherwise it would be interesting.

My first year with ST Maui having heard much about it.  Even Sheehan eats them.  Really.  Striking coloration outside, mottled pink and yellow is complemented by two tone yellow inside.  Beautify.  Is it superficial thought?  Actually it was pretty good.  Nothing to complain about here.  It is a well rounded mango - literal and figurative - but alongside the hall of famers I've been eating, it didn't wow me.  No fault of ST Maui.  Perhaps just my mango barrage.

Sugarloaf remains in the running for top mango for 2019.  Even wrinkled they remain firm inside and OMG tasty.  Coconut heaven.

Sugarloaf wins.

Tomorrow will feature Phoenix, taralay, Guava, Ice Cream, PPK, Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart and Coconut Cream...and I see M-10 turning color...

Sheehan inspires me. My money says he's the most discerning mango snob among mango snobs.  He rejection rate, refusing even to take a bite if its not top notch, is phenomenal.

Too many good mangos to bother eating the garbage.

You can really let Sugarloaf go. It keeps getting better and better. I let one go 3 or 4 extra days and it tasted like coconut syrup. The exterior on the other hand looked horrendous.

I noticed that as well. It has a much longer eatable period that many other mangos. While something like Fruit Punch has an hour when it tastes good, the Sugarloaf has days.

Flip top: M4 was the only top 10 fruit (#8 on my list) we didn’t get. It runs late so unless I revisit south Florida, not likely, may have to wait until next year.

Simon we only got one Cotton Candy, also a late variety, from Chris at Truly Tropical.  We did a long anticipated fruit tasting or 3 for her Youtube channel.  CC wasn’t in good shape though.  Seacrest crushed it. My mango fiend friends were baptized by sugar.

M-4 came and went, from Zill's at least. I picked up the rest of them the day I ran into you at Excalibur. I had actually given the nursery worker one to cut up for you to try. They have been hit or miss, some definitely picked prematurely. When they are good or should I say great they are packed with coconut flavor and a definite top 10.

Warm up Breakfast: Florigon, White Pirie, Rumani, Taymour, Apricot

We played small ball this morning with most of these being relatively small mangoes.

Florigon is the exception, a mid sized one.  I thought it had gone too far.  I was pleasantly surprised that inside was still ok.  Florigon (https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/florigon) is a decent mango with no offensive features.  Fibreless and reasonably sweet, on its own it would be hard to fault.  Yellow outside coupled with yellow dense silk inside.  Similar to Choc-Anon, it doesn't pop but this is something only a mango aficionado would bother commenting on.  Nonetheless it was a good precursor to...

White Pirie graced my table for the fist time this year.  If you enjoy resinous mangoes, you would probably enjoy her company.  It starkly contrasted Florigon, from subtle grace to a strong bite.  Julie and Super Julie like profile in a smaller package.

Rumani is a small globe, so round its hard to tell the seed orientation when cutting into it.  I found it unremarkable relative to White Pirie.  Maybe gone to far, maybe just not as good it also has the resinous flavor but not on point today.

Some natives to Egypt argue Taymour is their finest mango.  I sought it out this year at Tropical Acres delivered.  Do not be deterred by the frog green skin with black spots.  Inside hides two tone yellowy orange flesh that defines delight.  Its O M G good.  Dense, sweet, resinous, rich and complex.  Its unusual to find such a sweet mango with such rich resin profile.  I think I'm in love.

Apricot is growing on me.  Its light taste presents a steep contrast to Taymour richness but its refreshing.

Breakfast winner: Taymour.  Easily.  I might have to kick something out from my top 50 to make room.

Now, time to get into the heavyweights: Lemon Zest, Orange Sherbet, Zill Indochinese, Phoenix, P-22, Cac, Coconut Cream, Kryptonite, Sweet Tart, PPK, Super Alphonso and Angie.

We arrived at Tropical Acres and as I predicted, a line up at the gate had already commenced....
To be continued...

Our next stop was Truly Tropical.  Chris has been incredibly helpful to me over the last 8 years and I've developed a deep admiration for her dedication.  Managing 190 trees and over 50 varieties is no mean feat.  And that's just her mangoes.  Bonus points for time spent with the walking mango encyclopedia we know as Har (http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?action=profile;u=163).   Carlos immersed in all manner of pruning and fertility knowledge.  I was pleased to see them in their element.  Double bonus points as on their walkabout they found 3 Lemon Zest fresh drops.  bag em.

Meanwhile I was honored to update Chris on the Bermuda and Sierra Leone mango projects she helped me with. Youtube vidoes coming soon.

As if that wasn't enough, we then proceeded to mash mangoes at her tasting table.  Video coming on that too.

And then we bought.  And bought.  And bought.  My guys looked at me with raised eyebrows.

All those mangoes?

Yea.

Dinner finished the day which is when I found out Sheehan likes strawberries more than mangoes...

So a friend - originally from JA - came by, new to gourmet mangoes.  She was all into Haitian mangoes and I had to put an end to it.  We crushed Angie, Sweet Tart, Taymour, Coconut Cream, ValCarrie and Po Pyu Kalay.  She enjoyed them all, especially Taymour.  She's driving 4 hours to West Palm Beach on Sunday...

PPK has finally hit peak form.  Heaven, sliced and served.

Thanks for the background info on Apricot, Future! I came across some for sale in Bokeelia, and there was an apricot undertone to the one I sampled and the one I bought (never sure if the name helps influence taste).

There was also a resin flavor as found in my Ice Cream and Neelam mangos (West Indian resin, I think Alex identifies the flavor profile as). Did you notice such a flavor?

I don't mind that resin, but couldn't stand the pine resin taste in Angie. My girlfriend didn't like the Apricot Mango resin. We both think Madame Francis is an awesome Haitian mango :D

Here's the Apricot we had:

Other notes

The mango barrage we mashed in South Florida was pure torrent. Of those we mashed before I had time to take any notes, Cushman was among the better ones. Coloration similar to coconut cream inside. It was in top form. Two classics, Mulgoba and Nam Doc have also been in good form this year.  When Dot’s have been good, they’ve been great. It’s probably among the mostly consistently good mangoes year on year. We also enjoying mashing Carrie, Julie and Super Julie. Ice Cream knocked my guy’s socks off.

Also Sweet Tart have been less than impressive, overly rich and not exceptionally sweet.  Lemon Zest hasn't yet hit top form.

Three other new ones I look forward to: Lucille, Gaylour (https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/gaylour), both via Dr. Campbell and Arka Neelkiran (https://www.tropicalacresfarms.com/product-page/arka-neelkiran) from Alex.

Alex advises Gaylour has Egyptian origins.  Doc said its a "3,000 year old" cultivar.  Lucille is big, kidney shape, yellow with pink blush and surprisingly, polyembryonic.  Don't know much else about it.

Dinner: Angie, Sweet Tart, ValCarrie, Phoenix and Po Pyu Kalay

Finished off the delights shared with my friend and her grandchildren.

Angie: Eat em firm folks and it will be the real deal.

Sweet Tart: Ok so maybe I spoke too soon.  ST's dark orange inside conceals a rich sweet combo thats pretty unique.  I'm still leaning towward kicking it to #10 spot though, swapping in Coconut Cream at #5.  Splitting hairs?  maybe.

ValCarrie was good but they were all overshadowed by

Phoenix.  Its realer than real deal Holyfield.  Chris at TT placed it among her top 3 in 2019 (alongside Seacrest and Dot).  It took first place among the insider's club tasting.  Who am I to argue?

But along comes PPK.  Ok.  So.  I recall years ago letting them go ala Ataulfo mangoes.  This little wrinkled granny invoked more OMGs than a teenager addicted to social media.  Let your PPKs wrinkle people.  Yes there was a blackened soft spot on the end but my gracious - 'candy disguised as a mango' is back.

PPK crushes all would be contenders.

Orange sherbet, P22, Super Alphonso, Cac, Coconut Cream, Guava, Lemon Zest still asking for my attention...

Gaylour “looks” poly but I haven’t checked seed. Being “3000 years” in cultivation would support the notion.  Have you or anyone looked?

Breakfast: Guava, Gaylour, Ice Cream

Ice Cream for breakfast is a legitimate move.  This mango sweets me to no end.  It has perhaps the most unique scent of any mango.  Its tough to describe but you know it when you smell it.  Creamy inside, scrumptious and pure delight to eat.  Slight fibre but nothing to write home about.  Ice Cream is a top 30 mango.

Gaylour is new to me.  And growing on me.  Its scent is mild compared to Ice Cream, but most things are.  Its taste also milder, more like honeydew melow.  Ultrafibreless and smooth.  Its big, fleshy and sweet.  I can see why Dr. Campbell is all over it and Alex rates it too.

Guava.  I have been bathing in mango aroma for days on end so when I cut a mango and its aroma grabs attention, that says something.  Guava did that.  Most probably already know what you perceived as flavour is +80% aroma.  Rob aroma, rob taste.  This being the case, Guava "tastes" absolutely amazing.  I have about 4 left.  Fibreless, sweet, blemish free, dense and highly aromatic.  I have to reserve a top 20 spot for the Guava mango.  if its the only mango you have, you've done well.

Guava wins.

Mabrouka, Sweet Tart, Zill IndoChinese, Super Alphonso, Orange Sherbet, Coconut Cream, Cac, P-22 all need attention...

Ok, so things just got ridiculous.

On the table: Mabrouka, P-22, Orange Sherbet, Lemon Zest, Cac and Zill Indochinese.

Mabrouka is an Egyptian cultivar, new to me.  Beautiful mango with spoiled spot on the blossom end both otherwise flawless.  Slick on the inside, fibre free and floral tasting.  Fairly sweet but otherwise unremarkable, at least for aficionados.  By itself, its a fine mango.  But it happened to be placed next to

P-22.  I had this on my list for a while.  Had it maybe in 2015 and recall it was great.  Found is at Zill Nursery this year and, my gracious, is it good.  Big, juicy, aromatic.  If I recall lineage the same as Kryptonite and Venus.  And the genes show.  I'm awaiting a friend coming over and saved half to share...barely.  I thought I picked these in the wrong order as P-22 went showstopper on me.  Top 20?  Easily.  Top 10...?  Ah lemme think it over by revisiting top 10 staples like...

Lemon Zest.  To be fair, they haven't been on their game this year.  Maybe 70% of their potential has shown.  This one was no different.  The smell was phenomenal. if you've ever smelled LZ sap straight off the tree you know incredible's definition. This fruit lit the place up with aroma but...the taste wasn't there.  A shadow only.  I did a Sheehan and cut another...a bit better but still...not there.  Moving on

Orange Sherbet.  Would this top 5 mango deliver?  Damn straight.  Silly levels of sweetness combined with epic citrus flavor and aroma would normally bring any comparative tasting to its conclusion.  Apex.  But here's the thing.  I rated P-22 slightly ahead.  That's not supposed to happen.

But it did.  Side by side.

Confounded, I reached for Cac.  A top 11 fruit for me.  This one didn't look good, but spoiled skin only hid immaculate flesh.  Dense.  Strong flavour.  Complex.  Sweet.  Creamy.  Perfect.  Triple confounding creaminess.  Three way ties don't work.  That's not supposed to happen.  So I reached for a fruit that consistently ranks #6 among my +200 varietal experiences.

Zill Indochinese is another biggie.  This one carried a few spots outside but otherwise was in good shape.  Might be the only one I have left.  And I might have to do something about that.  It redefined creaminess.  Flavor profile, absurd.  Texture, preposterous.

No disrespect to Mabrouka.  Wrong plate, wrong day.  Lemon Zest finishing second last?  Not supposed to happen.

4 way tie in exquisiteness.  Its to savour.  So as I share the other half of these four fruits with a friend...any order will do.

West Palm Beach is changing the world.

Lunch: We added Guava and Gaylour to the mix, finishing off the other half of breakfast.

While Gaylour may sound like a 1980s insult among teenage boys, its the opposite of offensive.  Sweet, melon like flavour in a big yet tidy package.  Guava rocked.  I ran my Jamaican friend through the mix and to my surprise, she rated Lemon Zest as #1.  Perhaps my expectations for LZ are nothing short of perfection.  She enjoyed them all, especially P-22 and Guava.

On the table is our first 36-8, recently named Super Alphonso and if I can mange it, Coconut Cream.  I made need to make a coconut cream smoothie bowl at this rate...

What happens when you pit a bonafide top 20 mango against a gaylour?  Well, in fairness to Gaylour, it went first.  And isolated, seemed to perform well.  Contrast is everything and absent this, there's really no fault to be found.  Buy my God did Guava whoop it.  Richer.  Sweeter.  Denser.  Darker.  Its a superb specimen.  No competition.

I concur but its gonna have to wait until tomorrow.  Wrinkled PPK, Sweet Tart and Guava finished off the day.  True aficionados await PPK's wrinkles, similar to letting a Pickering go.  Certain would be aficionados (Sheehan), too young to remember 'Tang' orange juice concentrate (and good thing for them), doubt this approach.  Don't let that sway you.  The only question mark around this evenings sugary pleasure was, how do I justify keeping Guava out of my top ten.  Its almost too good.

The Zinc family of mangos is the flavor I'm looking for most.

The Gaylours from our tree have been superb this year. Complex Indian flavor. Large fruit too

Phoenix is definitely special.

Gaylour “looks” poly but I haven’t checked seed. Being “3000 years” in cultivation would support the notion.  Have you or anyone looked?

I checked once and it was mono.

How does Orange Sherbet compare to LZ and PPK?  How is it different?  Would the best OS have the same rating as the best PPK or LZ?  In other words, would it be a good substitute for the other two if you wanted to avoid any disease issues and if space limited you to only one citrus-flavored mango?

Breakfast: Guava, Cac, Sweet Tart, Montego, Raw Honey, Pickering, 36-8 (Super Alphonso)

Guava continue to please.

Cac even in spoiled skin remains firm and delectable inside.

Sweet Tart is hitting form though I may still kick it to #10, swapping Coconut Cream at #5.

Montego is a new offering from MangoMen, named to grab the JA crowd's attention.  Its as close to a supermarket mango as I've eaten in a long time.  Fibre free is about the only good thing I can say about.  It does have flavor but...I couldn't bring myself to eat more than half of it when it sits next to...

Pickering.  I gave a few away until i noticed I hadn't eaten one.  Let this one go, as you should, and yes, it sweetens up nicely.  Uglier than Betty but don't let that put you off.

Raw Honey is another renaming game.  As Har put it, how does one discern raw from not raw honey taste, we may never know.  This was among my daughter's faves in 2014 or so.  I probably haven't seen it since.  Inside it looks like Nam Doc.  Smells like Nam Doc.  Tastes like Nam Doc.  But, anything near the skin is bitter.  Unlike Nam Doc.  Meh.

First Super Alphonso of 2019.  Aromatic.  Silk.  Complex.  Sweet.  A top 50 mango?  Yes.  But it hasn't earned a top 20 spot from me yet.  Give it a few seasons and we'll see.  Does it exceed Alphonso as the name suggests?  I'm sure my Indian brothers would disagree.  But names sell mangoes...

Super Alphonso wins.

Look ahead see a dream lineup (ex-LZ) : M-17 (finally) vs. Wrinkled PPK vs. Langra Benarsi vs. Guava vs. Coconut Cream vs. Ice Cream

After officially crushing +215 varieties over 9 years, differentiating between OS, PPK and LZ is splitting hairs.  For sure LZ outranks on flavor but we are talking a 9.9 vs. a 9.95 vs a 10.  Factor in growth habit, disease resistance, regularity in bearing and I'd take OS if I had to choose only one.  After seeing Dr. Campbell manage OS at 8ft tall - 60% of his grove - it produces every year and it comes off photoshop clean, its a winner.

That mango list is ..... obscene  :o

I have to agree.  Obsessive?  Probably.

Dinner: M-17 (finally) vs. Wrinkled PPK vs. Langra Benarsi vs. Guava vs. Coconut Cream vs. Ice Cream

Langra Benarsi is highly rated by my Indian subcontinent friends. I see why.  Its sizable, colourful, has a pleasant aroma, texture and taste.  I quite enjoyed it.  But then

I hit another Guava and its dominating like the 90's Bulls.  Caused Langra to fade like an MJ jumper

Ice Cream hung tough though.  Slightly underripe but man the aroma is so unique.  Its a dream.

Coconut Cream is just silly.  Even left with spoiled skin they come 99% unblemished.  Candy aroma matches the taste.  Superb.

M-17 is a round pink mango mound.  This one was slightly underripe.  Definitely fibreless, juicy,  floraland reasonably sweet.  Reminds me of some other mango but I have to contemplate what.  I've left it to ripen overnight and see.

Sheehan's wrinkled PPK finished strong.  Putting Tang out of business.  Sorry Langra.  No room for another in my top 50.

Guava, Ice Cream and CC nudge out PPK.  (Maybe needed some more wrinkles).

OS and LZ are neck and neck for me. They are different enough to make me want to grow both. OS is more orange flavored, smooth and creamy. LZ is a little more complex in flavor, larger fruit. PPK's I've had aren't as good as either OS and LZ.

Just ate another M-17. Large roundish fruit. While very little fiber, it breaks up a bit when cutting it. Flavor was plenty sweet with some sour notes, little floral. Very nice and lots of edible fruit.

Breakfast: Lucille, Arka Neelkiran, Orange Sherbet, Cac, Lemon Zest

Lucille is a new offering from Mangomen, Dr. Campbell.  Its a mid to large sized mango, with yellowy skin and a pink blush. Somewhat kidney shaped, it is unuually large for a polyembryonic mango.  Its shape also doesn't indicate its ploy status.  Inside is yellowy orange and as can be expected for a Mangomen offering, fibre free.  Subtly sweet and flavorful rather than strong, it has floral like tones which as just easy to eat.  In quantity.  No idea whats behind the name but we can find out...

Arka Neelkiran came reccomended by Alex.  I see why.  Small to mid size, round, speckled orange, yellow and pink skin.  Yellowy orange inside.  Fibre free.  Its noteworthy feature is flavor.  It requires attention but its has a subtle complexity that can't be appreciated if in a hurry.  The fruity tones almost sing a song in your hear.  Bouncing around from highs to low.  I did this mango.  Thanks Alex.

Orange Sherbet was in top form today.  From the before the first bite, its aroma permeated the brain.  Before the first bite, it was clear little else would be able to compete.  Even its mother, the wrinkled PPK hardly packed more 'Tang'.  More like Dang, I threw in the towel for the others.

Cac's skin was fading fast but as with many elite mangoes this year, flesh remained unblemished and firm.  Dense, sweet, rich.  I find not fault with my top 12 mango.  Absent OS, it might have ruled.

Would Lemon Zest knock off her sibling?  Not today.  It was good, no great but still only 80% of what a true LZ ought to be.  Zippy, sweet and lucious but alas...

Orange Sherbet reigns supreme.

Dinner: Mekong, Juliette, Pram Kai Mea, Dupuis Saigon, Lemon Zest

Mekong is a poly Tropical Acres offering that aims to please.  A pleasant yellow brown skin hides yellowy flesh inside that remains smooth.  Nothing reasonable resin gives it a tidy accent but nothing that was overpowering.  Nice mango.

Juliette I haven't had the pleasure of in a while.  This one ripened unevenly, a spoiled spot yet under-ripe everywhere else.  Nonetheless, the edible portion was pretty good.  Slight chalkiness, slight creaminess, somewhat reminiscent of ice cream (with an entirely different aroma though).  Judging by this one, I estimate a properly ripe one will retain its place in my top 50.

Three things stand out for Pram Kai Mea.  First, it's ridiculously sweet.  It begs a brix meter assessment.  If there's a sweeter mango, i'd like to know what it is. Second, the seed is ultra thin.  Its all eating inside.  Third, when is starts to spoil, as this one had, the spoiled flesh remains self contained, falling off into solid lumps leaving unspoiled flesh distinct and unaffected.  Pretty neat.  now, it does have a 'twang' flavor profile that some won't care for.  I get it.  But if that worls for you and you enjoy sweet, PKM delivers.

Dupuis was also going, going but what was edible remained delectable.  Same story on spoiled spots falling away leaving unspoiled portion behind.  Not far to rate but it was pretty good.

Drum roll.

The real Lemon Zest had arrived.

Har & my crew found three during their walkabout at Truly Tropical. I know its them because of the mottled green skin marks.  Inside entirely unaffected.  And my God.  For several years prior to securing LZ, I thought it impossible for a mango to outdo PPK's peak intensity.  Boy was I wrong.

LZ is bigger, bolder, sweeter, exceptionally complex and lie-down-on-the-couch-afterwards good.  The only question after she shows up is, who's playing for second.

Mini mango Wall Breakfast: Taralay, Sweet Tart, Taymour, Super Alphonso, Coconut Cream

Climbed a mini mango wall beginning with Taralay which was over-ripe.  Slick inside, modestly sweet but too far gone to fairly rate.

Sweet Tart was also too far along.

Taymour / Taimour continues to please.  A delectable combination of rich resin with sweetness.  A winner.

'Super Alphonso' remains on point.  Green skinned pleasure.

Coconut Cream reveals another trait.  This year I've been really letting these go.  As it, 75% spoiled and hardened skin.  The thing is, they are none the worse for it.  I wouldn't recommend going to far but certainly a few days past what would seem their prime, the remain unblemished inside.  Incredible aroma previews even more incredible flavour.  Apologies to Sweet Tart but their are making the case for upgrade to the #5 spot...

CC wins.

Yesterday's lunch/dinner: Juliette, OS, Sweet Tart, Taymour, PPK, Lemon Zest

Juliette found herself surrounded by all-stars.  How did she respond?

Orange Sherbet was in prime for and set the pace for this tasting event.  Sugary sweet citrus scent supplies sublime salivation.  OS is the real deal.

Taymour continues to please and earn its place among the elite.  Dense, rich, complex and sweet.  Its a fairly small package containing a fairly big punch.  I dig it.

Lemon Zest continues her reign although this one was past her prime.  Nonetheless, what good in there, was great.

Similar story with PPK.  Orange flavor to the max.

Sweet Tart is slipping but is still a great mango.  I've had trouble keeping up with those is prime condition which brings us to

Juliette.  I thought it was primed but turned out to be under-ripe.  Potential was there but actual probably needed another day.  Firm, complex, dense and fibreless, in peak form, who knows what it could have done...

Orange Sherbet edges out Taymour and wins.

Breakfast: Orange Essence, M-10, Coconut Cream, Taymour, Orange Sherbet, Lemon Zest

The game switches now to just keeping up.  Refrigerated mangoes will dominate from the next day or two going forward.

Orange Essence is new to me.  The name fits.  A round mound, its a mid sized globe with delectable orangey flesh inside.  I enjoyed this one a lot, which says something as I climb mango saturation.

M-10, also new for 2019, is on the larger side.  Less complex and less sweet, its still a good mango but not yet earning a place among the elite.  Give it more opportunity to show what it can do.

CC continues to delight even past its prime.  Its among 2019's best.

I apologize to Orange Sherbet & Lemon Zest as I couldn't maintain the pace...past their prime and it showed.

If Taymour sits stop Egyptian mangoes than surely it deserves a place among the world's best.  I continue to be impressed and favour it.  It has a dense flesh, complex profile and sweetness that isn't often found in any one mango.  I welcome her to the inner circle - top 30 club that is.

Taymour wins.

Upcoming we have new faces: Ivory, M-17, Mun Khunsee, Ceci Love, OS & LZ.

Forget Stella.

Got my mango groove back.

Late lunch / early dinner: M-17, Ivory, Mun Khunsee, Ceci Love, Lemon Zest

Those looking for relief will note M-17 is NOT another coconut flavored mango.  Its not traditional either but the description temporarily escapes me.  It tastes like another mango but which one will take a minute.  It a family sized beast.  Its obvious its a juice factory from the first cut.  Syrup pooled plate.  Yet its firm.  Light fragrance and easy to eat.  Nothing struck me hard enough to warrant it as top tier flavor wise.  But a big, dense, juicy, fibre-less mango...with floral notes...whats to complain about?  Decent color too.

I've favour Ivory for years due to its smooth texture.  This one wasn't the sweetest but it was silk.  Bright yellow pillow of flesh invites.  Thin seed and dense flesh seal the deal.  For me, top 50 mango.

Mun Khun See is a fave of mine.  Its probably the mango with the widest edible range, from crunchy green to orange dead ripe it remains sweet throughout.  it blew my crew's mind to eat a crunchy sweet mango.  Sleepdoc is among the few growing this rare find.  I always dig it and this ripe one, was spot on.

Ceci Love, named for Dr. Campbell's wife, is a mized sized orangey mango with succulent flesh when ripe.  Also a juice factory is had mid-range aroma and silky inside.  My only gripe would be the seed seems larger than normal but this is a infinitesimally small gripe.  its a good mango.

Lemon Zest closed the meal.  As it should.

LZ wins.

Citrus rain awaits with Orange Sherbet, Orange Essence, Lemon Zest plus Sweet Tart, M-10 and Cac in the wings.

Dinner: Taymour, Keow Savoy, PPK, Super Alphonso (36-8)

Taymour continues to please.  Its simply superb.

Keow Savoy I tried ripe.  Well too ripe.  Its normally eaten green and overripe was no good.

Wrinkled PPK defines succulent.

Super Alphonso looked and felt ripe but was slightly under.  Almost white inside but still quite good.  E4 reminiscent at this stage.

Taymour edges out PPK.

Breakfast: Sweet Tart, Bombay, Orange Essence, Cac, Coconut Cream, Orange Sherbet

Sweet Tart retains its top 10 status in the mangoverse.  Pure delight.

First Bombay of the year.  It was small, a mediocre following ST.

Orange Essence is growing on me.  I didn't expect much when others said it wasn't top tier but I really enjoy it.  Its more syrupy than OS which is more like concentrate.

Cac retains its top 12 status with rich, dense, complex and sweet offerings.  No fault there.

Coconut Cream seemed over ripe but was actually under ripe (or picked early).  Had more like a pineapple flavor today in this stage.

Orange Sherbet showed top form today.  Incredible sweetness, blowing away everything on the table.  Maybe I got lucky but this one was in the LZ ridiculous flavour range today.  Creamy, sickly sweet, melting profile and just sheer delight.

Do I really need to name the winner?

Upcoming: Ice Cream, Coconut Cream, Lemon Zest, M-10, Ivory, Sweet Tart,

Had a friend over and we mashed: Fruit Punch, Coconut Cream, White Pirie, Gary, Mallika, Fukuda, Ice Cream, Orange Sherbet, Lemon Zest, Sunrise, Guava.

Mallika brought the funk.  Ice Cream was a dream.  White Pirie's resinous sweetness impressed.  Sunrise was good.  Fruit Punch finally did.  Lemon Zest stayed a shade behind but Orange Sherbet, the winner, with honorable mention to Coconut Cream & Guava.

Breakfast:  M-10, Orange Essence, Orange Sherbet, Sweet Tart

M-10 is officially growing on me.  Its a big mango.  The standard aficionado requirements are all ticked: fibreless, tasty, sweet, aromatic.  Bonus points for flavor subtlety in flavor.  Paying close attention to taste at its proper ripening stage, it has shades of Yi Xuan or Beatrice.  That's pretty good.  I still need to find the words to describe the flavor complex but suffice to say for now...its sublime.

Orange Essence I need to savor at its firm stage.  Everything I had was fine but it begs to be eaten firm.  I thoroughly enjoy its syrupy orange offering.

Orange Sherbet was off form today, perhaps at 70% of its apex.  Still good but falling short of form and also...

Sweet Tart.  Today was her day.  A perfectly ripe ST rocks the mind's brix meter.  Sickly sweet and succulent.  If these and CC were consistent, fruit to fruit and year to year, many many fruit would be put to out to pasture......

ST wins.

The last of the unrefrigerated mango are upon us.  Lemon Zest, Coconut Cream, Ice Cream, OS, Pram Kai Mea, Cac, Choc Anon and Sweet Tart await.

There is a new mail order mango provider. They have exceptional prices and the best staff, ever.  Even better, they have Julie mangoes when everyone else seems to have run out.  And from a historic tree of Trinidadian origins.  And...well I’ll let the owner say more...

Dinner: Choc Anon, Lemon Zest, Coconut Cream, Pram Kai Mea, Cac

I ate Choc Anon, PKM and Cac with low expectations. All were from the fridge and visibly in decline, especially PKM. surprise: they actually were pretty good. Choc Anon is among my daughter’s faves and I have to give credit, it was ok!  Cac was essentially unspoiled. PKM required some salvaging but what was good was good.  The second to last LZ is finishing strong with Cac close behind

LZ wins.

Now if only this new mango dealer can chime in....

Breakfast: Lemon Zest, Orange Sherbet, Sweet Tart, Super Alphonso, Mulgoba, Baptiste

Mulgoba was toast.  Apologies to this age old classic.  Mulgoba

Baptiste drove me to doing a Sheehan.  One bite and done.  Ug.

Super Alphonso was slightly under ripe but fared well.

The Last of the OS was upon us and we already look fwd to 2020s offerings.

Same for LZ.  Not in top form but nonetheless good.

Sweet Tart bedazzled.  Fully ripened, full on sugar.  Easily wins.

Other than me new found Julies and a baby OS, we shift gears now to refrigerated mangoes...

I still have a ZINC, Edgar, Fruit Cocktail, Jakarta and plenty more in the mix.

Dinner: Julie, Venus, Ice Cream, Mallika, Guava, Orange Sherbet

I got good advice from a credible aficionado (Sheehan) to eat these Julies 'green'.  The first one turned colour.  It smelled divine.  it was dead firm, no give.  I took a chance.  Inside was....immaculate.  Juice ran from the first cut and aroma wafted all around.  Ahhh a fresh Julie.  Top 30 mango it is.

Mallika tends to do ok for me refriedgerated.  This one was dense, firm and succulent but not sweet.  Still a quality mango though.

Ice Cream for ice cream.  It continues to please.

OS was tiny and the last for 2019.  Fab.

Venus, a biggie, had plenty of juice, shades of P-22 but I must say P-22 outshines it.

Guava was the showstopper.  Firm, fragrant silk remain immaculate after a week in the fridge.  Dense, sweet and smooth.  Superb.

Guava wins.

I have to ask, Future, do you eat anything other than mangos on these mango-feasting excursions? :D

Occasionally.  At this torrid pace, it took me about 2 weeks to hit the mango wall.  For certainty, I'm probably averaging 30 miles a day biking.   :D

Breakfast: Julie, Sunrise, Fruit Cocktail, Zill Indochinese

Today's Julie had less blush than the prior and I decided to flow with it.  Funny though, it was even more ripe.  Still juicy and flavorful, now I may have to do a Sheehan and eat the next one green.  Julie's ripeness is known to apex without a few hours, finicky.  At today's stage it goes a bit grainy, less dense.  Still fab though.

Sunrise was less wonderful than I recall.  Still good but perhaps chilled for more than a week wasn't fair.

Fruit Cocktail trailed behind sunrise.  Again, still dense, juicy and pleasant but didn't wow.

Zill Indochinese also endured a chilled week but still shined.  Dense, juicy and firm.  Nothing to fault here.

ZINC wins.

In the pipeline: Edgar, Jakarta, Ceci Love, Bombay
Title: Re: Future’s Florida Fruit Feast - Vol 9 - 2019 edition

Dinner: Julie, Carrie, Edgar, Sturrock, Super Alphonso

This Julie was even greener and...past its prime.  Taste was just ok.  Forget finicky.  These are ultra finicky on timing.  "You have to plan your day around a ripening Julie"

Carrie, less than stellar out of the fridge but didn't offend anybody.

Lovely speckled skin pattern and gorgeous inside.  Edgar was better tasting than Carrie, more to it, firmer, denser and slightly sweeter.

Sturrock was interesting.  Beautiful pink fruit.  Lighter flavor, decent sweetness but I perceived an astirngency near the skin.  not a good finish.

Super Alphonso joined the refrigerated (ex-Julie) lineup and also delivered a middle of the road performance.

Nothing horrible but also outstanding...6 mores days....it might be downhill from here...

Winding down for sure now...among the chilled (ex-Julie) crew, Ceci Love edged out the rest.  One Julie left now...

Upcoming: Langra Benarsi, Julie, ValCarrie, Ice Cream

Dinner: Langra Benarsi, Julie, Ice Cream, ValCarrie

Langra Benarsi the a mango mango.  However, the fridge did her in.

Julie was well under-ripe, even Sheehan may not have eaten it.  Took significant effort to slice and yet still, juicy inside.  Chalky stage, which works for me.

Ice Cream was also slightly under-ripe, one I attempted to preserve in the fridge.  Its creamy potential was there which at this game stage, i'll take.

ValCarrie emerged from the fridge with questions on her inner condition. She quickly answer revealing divine coloration and texture.  Silky sweetness was on target.  Its a wonderful mango.

VC wins.

Late Dinner Entry: Juliette

Similarity to Julie is readily apparent.  Green skinned refridgerates Juliette was...ok.

Breakfast: Harvest Moon, Maha Chanok, Sunrise, Ugly Betty, Mallika

Perhaps its my diminishing expectations but all of these tasted better than anticipated.  Mallika was in great form, the earthy complexity compensating for not being ultra sweet.  Ugly Betty was also in fine form.

Harvest Moon I actually just cut up to freeze.  If you've never seen one, its a monstrosity.  My scales measure it as 2.5 lbs but I think thanks off.  It could feed a family of 4 with spare change left.  Wasn't expecting much based on others commentary but I didn't find anything off with it.  Its a good mango to practise skinning on and from that, I also note the flesh near the skin entirely palatable.

Still to go Maha Chanok, Sunrise, Bombay, Edgar and a few others.

With an emptying fridge, Merritt Island visit is now on the cards...

Maybe its just my low expectations.

Dinner: White Pirie. Bombay, Maha Chanok

White Pirie was excellent, syrupy sweet and delightful.

Bombay was not nearly as good, but ok.

Maha was spot on.

White Pirie wins.

On the homestretch.

D10, Maha Chanok, Sunrise, Duncan, Edgar

Can someone remind me not to buy even one Duncan next year?

Its one of those I try from time to time to determine if memory serves me and...at first I thought it was the skin making it bitter but even avoiding it failed.

Moving along.

D10 is a monstrosity picked up from Walter Zill.  New to me, tts nearly Harvest Moon sized mango madness.  Texture wasn't firm though, fridge could be blamed, middle of the road flavor.  Pretty in pink.

Maha also rocked the pink blush, packaging floral notes.  Beauty.

Edgar was also in pink blush mode but on this day here flavor profile was outshone by Maha.

Maha wins.

Only one Mallika and a few Sunrise left.

I ate my first two White Piri this morning .... in - cred - i - ble!! The 3 best mangos I ate this season was Sugarloaf, Super Julie and a particularly excellent Lemon Zest. I have had many others that were excellent this season (Peach Cobbler, ST Maui, Sweet Tart, Sunrise all come to mind) but these 3 were the standouts. Now I have to add White Piri to the list. So good. Very sweet and spicy, just a little resin to balance it out. So unbelieveably good.

And then there were two.

Mallika and Sunrise went heat to head and Mallika won.  Rich and sweet is a treat.

Met Toppy at Merritt Island today and picked up a few Carrie plus an unnamed variety to last until Thursday.

My friend loaded up on Haden, Beverly, Kent, Carrie, Zill...and Tommy.

Was great to meet Josie and her Carrie seedling...maybe to be named Josie if it survives the taste test.

Also swung my Jerry Hunts and she picked up some odds and ends.
