Seedless Papaya Propagation
« on: November 30, 2020, 11:39:33 AM »
I have a Seedless Papaya tree.
The fruit is excellent quality.

I would really appreciate any suggestions on how I can propagate it, since it doesn’t have any seeds.

'Virtue' should be taught, learned and propagated, in order to save others and oneself.

Presumably it is a seedling and female and the question relates to asexual propagation to continue the unpollinated flower developing into fruit line. I reckon you're better off with seedlings still and many such trees suddenly start getting seeds in the fruit. Other seedlings planted may also have the seedless thing going on if female and there are no males or bisex plants around.I like the dense ones with no hollow and just a few seeds as you seem to get more bang for you buck. I have a couple of papaya where the first few were seedless and subsequent fruit were not.

Papaya trees have buds with each leaf. You could take a nice bud and try to chip bud it onto another papaya tree.

Are ALL of the fruits seedless? My female trees occasionally have a few seeds in a few fruits, I plant them.

If you tube can be believed, papya can be air layered fairly easily. Suposedly this creates a dwarfed tree.

If what the above poster said is true, you can damage the crown of the tree to make it form multiple trunks. Then you can air layer those.

What you have is an unpollinated fruit. That's the only reason it's seedless. It's not some special genetics, just lack of male pollen. As soon as you introduce another papaya plant she's probably going to get "pregnant" and have seeds. I'm guessing you only have one papaya plant?
(Mike T said same thing in more wordy manner.)
