That looks awesome Mark, is that from your tree? They sell for around $5.99-6.99/pound for the imported stuff in the markets. Let us know how it tastes if it from your tree.

How do you manage them in the winter? I had some in containers on my very mild rooftop garden in the East Bay (no temperatures below 39F) and the starapples completely defoliated from the cold wind we'd get. Cold dry wind seemed to be worse for them than cold rain. But of course your winter is much warmer and drier than here.

This is a friends tree near me, it is grafted and we haven't tried the fruit yet. Mine formed marble sized fruits but fell off in winter. It may be because it is a different variety not as cold tolerant as my friends tree.

Are yours (the ones that dropped) green or purple? I have a purple caimito from Ong that was flowering when I bought it last year, and looks perfectly healthy through winter (no defoliation) but I haven't had any fruit set yet. It may be too young. What insect pollinates this?
