mangosteen
« on: April 28, 2020, 08:17:47 AM »
I know, I know.  They will likely not live in Florida but I brought back mangosteen seeds from CR and they have been growing in a compot for about 6 months and am looking to repot them.  Any recommendations for best chance for potting media?  They seem to enjoy being wet  Thanks

I would say a loamy clay with some coco fiber.  I agree they like it wet, but not too sure if that’s the case if it gets cold.

There is a guy in Naples that has an in-ground durian that is flowering.  You can probably do mangosteen.  There is a lady in Miami that has a fruiting mangosteen and pulasan.  Never count yourself out.  Push it.

Mine is doing great in SoFL. Got a little stressed over the winter (had just been planted), and is now pushing all kinds of new growth. At least 4 feet tall.

Go for it. If your soil is alkaline, I recommend making a large hole, lining it, and amending the soil to a more neutral or slightly acid ph. Sandy loam. I mixed sand, top soil, peat, vermiculite, compost, biochar, and some store bought soil mixes.

Painting liner with microkote copper nutrient paint might help.

Full sun only part of the day. Needs some shade and protection from wind. Mist daily if you can.
