Pomelo to start breakfast

It is no wonder pomelos seen to be getting more common around here and grapefruit are diminishing as they are bigger and taste better.In defence of grapefruit they are easier to juice.My scungy breakfast pomelo from a friend's overflow does not match the whopping red fleshed ones I saw on the farm yesterday.

My second favourite fruit after mangoes  Truly a delicious way to start the day! Unfortunately for me, my seedlings from an unknown Thai red are only a foot high. No homegrown pomelos for me for a few years.

I also like pomelo a lot but they have to be sweet and juicy.

Today i bought a rare species of pomelo. It is the Som O tub tim siam. aka Pomelo pomgranate thailand.

I saw a picture of it and it is a very red pomelo, not so big and should be sweet. I bargained for fun and i offered 4 us$ for the tree and i got it for that price. So now i m thinking what to do with it, graft on my other pomelotree or just plant it instead of the other one that does not grow well and never fruited so far.

I have never seen this species on the market but the old man said it is from Malaysia.

I also enjoy a good pommelo.  The one you picture here has considerably more seeds than the ones I grow.  I know some citrus get more or less seedy depending on what is around to cross pollinate.  Any idea what the cross pollination situation was with this fruit?

Haus it is just a trashy seedling fruit that has seeds but still tasted ok.My carters red will be so much better than that when it starts to fruit.There are a few new improved ones around that are a bit smaller and sweeter with thinner rind.

I see some very nice colored ones here on this site. Too bad that the thai never mention the species name when you buy a fruit. Sometimes they mention it but in thai language and i cannot read that. Also many times they even don't know themselves what species they are selling.

Did anyone taste this real red pomelo?? I wouild like to know the taste if it is really sweet.
