You have fruit now? This isn't the season. Did you hand pollinate?

Awesome to have them this time of year. They normally ripen from March to May. Love the flavor of these! One of the best!

you're super lucky Mike...

I think the flavor should be really good...because it's so early...and fruit was not exposed to low temps....I think a cold winter can really mess up fruit quality here in Central FL, and I'm sure some years even in South FL.

its weird, here in So. Cal the best cherimoyas I got from my yard were when things were extremely cold, late Jan to early Feb. Lack of cold induces early ripening and inferior fruit quality here.

My guess is, cherimoya is a different animal than reticulata...cherimoya can handle much lower temps.

I have had lots of Annona reticulata February through May.  Never in the Fall!

However, all the hybrids that are half Annona reticulata have ripened in the Fall.

I have never tried 'Fernandez', but have consistently heard glowing reports about it.

My custard apple tree is currently holding half dozen fruit for the first time. Four the fruit are the size as pictured along with a couple of smaller ones. A couple of them are from flowers I attempted to hand pollinated (unsuccessfully tried to hand pollinate in the past) and the others naturally pollinated.

Can anyone determine the variety by the pictures?

I cut the fruit today .It was very good creamy not as gritty as most of the custard apples I have had. The color was more pink than red. The red color is what I was hoping for.And no I don't think it is a San Pablo.

Could be 'San Pablo' --- that pale under some growing conditions--- but looks more like 'Sarteneja'.

I bought twenty small grafted trees from one of the best , biggest grafters in homestead . The father said that he had some Sarteneja. I might have gotten one in the bunch. I have had a lot of San Pablo that is why I don't think it is one. I have one more fruit on the trees. I will post a picture today.

Thank Bob, I am south palm beach county Florida zone 10b. I believe it been 7 or 8 years since purchased from a Miami Rare Fruit Council member.  Presently, I can’t see a graft union, so apparently it a seedling.
