Calamansi wont fruit
« on: April 16, 2021, 03:54:22 PM »
Hi
I have a calamansi tree I grew from seeds, it's about 5-6 years old and will not fruit.  Anyone have tips on how I can get it to fruit? It's planted in grown.  Leaves are green and healthy, grafted a lime scioni which took and is now growing shoots.

I'm not sure how long they typically take to fruit from seed but I don't think there is any cultivation trick you can do to force flowering.

These are really common to find growing from cuttings, you could get a cutting grown one or graft some mature wood from one onto yours if you are impatient.

In my estimation, your 5-6 year old tree will still require 2 or 3 more years before it is capable of producing fruit.

That sounds right. I grew one from a seed we got at the Kumquat festival many years ago and I think that is about how long it took. It probably would have fruited faster if it had been given a little more care.
