Is this REALLY a Mahachanok Mango ???
« on: June 01, 2017, 11:20:50 AM »
I bought this tree from a reputable grower and it was supposed to be Mahachanok but the mangos don't have the typical elongated "thai" shape that I've seen before. What do you think?

Doesn't look like it at all... hopefully someone here can tell you what it is. More detailed photo of the fruit on the tree could help

Dont need to repeat the facts that have already been shared.  I will add that it is a very odd shaped tree.  Kind of looks like so.ething from a Scooby Doo episode...

How big/old is the tree?  While the picture could be deceiving,  it looks a little on the young/small side to be letting it hold fruit.  Not gospel but just my opinion for overall health and quality of the tree.

Might be Carrie. That one clear pic isn't really enough though.

Thank you. That's a good guess based on color, size, shape, and fruiting season. Anyone else?

I thought Carrie as well based on the shape of the fruit. You'll know when you cut it open if it is, No mistaking a Carrie. One of my personal faves.

I would say definitely not a Carrie. Fruit is not the right color or shape, particularly at the stem attachment point. Leaves are not a deep green and the growth habit is not Carrie-like. Looks like long internodes... Guess again ;D

Which nursery did you buy it from?

Alex's Fruit Trees Redlands FL. He's making right on it with a 25 gal replacement. Highly reconcile s this guy. This is the first time in years that I've had an issue with him and his trees are beautiful

Maybe it's the age or history, but my malika looks much more symmetrical compared to the picture

Mallikas do sometimes come in that shape. But the in first pics of the tree with fruits on it, the leaves and shape of other fruits are not of Mallika. I can see it being Carrie like.

Looks like a different fruit from post # 5. In this photo it looks more like Madame Francis, which could explain the "Maha Chanok" mislabel.
