Can someone ID these leaves, Green Sapote or Mamey?
« on: April 12, 2021, 03:00:23 PM »
bought this as a green sapote, its grafted with the variety "pumpkin pie"
After research I can't find any info on this cultivar, only a "pumpkin pie" Mamey, new variety
I think its a mislabeled mamey because the leaves aren't fuzzy on the underside

Looks like a pouteria sapota but can not tell for sure since in the image there's no new growth. viridis fruit is superior to sapota in my opinion but harder to get established from my experience.

Pumpkin Pie is a newer released variety from Gary Zill.  Supposed to be of excellent quality but as it has only been released for a few years, doubt any have fruited yet to be able to confirm or give an assessment

Brian's picture looks like a green sapote.

MK's picture looks more like a mamey, PLUS, it has a tag with a named mamey variety.  Truly sounds like a case of the nursery not knowing or realizing that it was a mamey variety.
