And this are two seed seedling avocados from a very rare variety that one friend from Belize sent me. This avocado have purple fesh!  :o

This photos are from the original fruit that my friend took…

Do you know how cold hardy it should be? like Hass or Fuerte or anything else?

I think those seedlings of avocado will be true to type because the leaves are red and they contain more anthocyanins wich its the same pigment that makes the fruit color to be violet.
My red fleshed apple ,the Red love era, also has red bark and reddish new leaves because the tree contains the anthocianins too,not only the fruit.

Yes the red love is one of the most beautifull trees i have. bark has a nice bright orange color and new growth/flowers red/violet.
I really hope the avocado will turn out great!

has anyone tasted nagasakiwase loquat? a have read pretty good descriptions

I have, here in Australia it's actually a pretty easy one to obtain. The fruits are sweet and have great flavor and generally can give 2 lots of fruit at different times of the year, usually being late autumn and spring.

Thank you very much for the info! are there any other varieties that produce two crops per year?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Distilled alcohol from fruits
« on: March 31, 2020, 02:48:27 AM »
Here you can make as much as you wish but you cant sell it legally.
I was thinking : one kilo of table sugar costs 50 cents, through distillation => 1 litter of 70 degree booze wich is expensive as a sanitizer now a days= business.
But off course i wouldnt do business ,instead i would give it for cheap or almost for free to people that needs it for disinfection.
I felt really scammed with that 96 degree booze for 20 euros thogh .

In my opinion to make cheap alcohol as a sanitizer, sugar is the best option. You can also use any fruits with high sugar content and easy to collect. If you want to make anything for drinking its a differnt subject

I think 9b is pretty far outside of its normal range, but i could be wrong. You might have a hard time.

That is the reason i asked, from what i have read the recommended zones are 4-8 or 4-9 so maybe it could be possible

I would recommend the Amelanchier - they go by many names here, like Juneberry and Serviceberry.

The ones i've eaten have been surprisingly good for a relatively unknown fruiting shrub. I might grow some eventually but for now i eat a few every year from bushes growing in a parking lot nearby.

To be more specific the variety the nursery claims to have is
Amelanchier alnifolia 'Northline', if you know anything about it.
I was thinking of getting both since the dead mans fingers is very rare to find here

You could try but a better related plant its the Lardizabala from Chile.
Zabala its amazing because it mimics the leaves of the trees it grows and even mimics artificial plants leaves.
Its not iet understud how does it sees the leaves that she mimics.
The fruit looks like a pawpaw and its said to be of good quality, better than dead mans fingers.

Are you sure Zabala has the mimicry properties? because i found that Boquila trifoliolata another species of the same family has that property. It is from the same region but a different plant
Your right .Its Boquilla but has a synonim as Lardizabala trifoliata.
I think one its more cold hardy than the otther.
Its been a while since i studyed the flora of Patagonia.
If you get plants from Patagonia ,check if they are resistant to drought and heat. The more cold hardy they are ,the more they hate drought and summer heat.

thankfully i have enough space near the pawpaws that i can put similar climate plants

Your right it will be hard to find Lardizabala viable seeds.
I have no experience with amelanchier and dead mans fingers.
Dead mans fingers looks like a curiosity collector plant rather than an usefull fruit tree.
I got an Akebia wich is related to dead mans fingers and i consider it a curiosity also, not an usefull fruit.
If you can find at the nursery and if they do well in your area i reccomend the mini kiwi ,,Issai,, or ,,dr Szymanovsky,,.These are good fruits available for cheap at supermarket seedling place this time of year.

I have the mini kiwi issai 2 years and last year it managed to grow some feet. Also i bought last fall 2 akebia plants that seem to do fine (the only thing thag troubles me is that the new buds/leaves are completely white while emerging now the are purple/white, is that normal? )
I know dead mans fingers is a curiosity plant but i really want to have even barely edible plants in my garden

That sounds really interesting but i think it will be hard to find it! I am asking for dead mans fingers and amelancier because i found them in a local nursery that is open despite covid19.

Palmcity, the cruise ship Diamond princess has 1,5% deathrate not 0,5 and it also has 15 people in intensive care.
Where do you get your facts about 0,5%?
Look here, detailed ,live ,worldwide corona situation.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Donf forget that a large portion of people that go on cruises are usually elderly. So it should be expected the death rate to be higher than that on the total population
You are right that they are elderly but i think the cruise ship example could be wrong because they say everybody got the virus.
I dont think its that contagious and for sure its not as contagious as the flu.
Its not contagious as the flu because simply you dont cough all the time ,only at the begining and the corona has a lot less healing time than the flu wich lasts 2 weeks.
Something doesnt add up.If not everybody on that ship got sick then the death rate could be bigger.

The main problem with covid19 is that its more contagious than the flu! I have been speaking with a pneumologist (head od the clinic) in italy and he said that the seriusness of covid19 is a little worse than the common flu but its extremely contagious. That and the absence of antibodies for that virus in our organisms is the reason everything is closed. Because your organism doesnt know how to fight it (so it takes time to heal) and everyone gets sick the same time, so the hospitals cant cope

Ive got a cold and i sneezed @300-400 times ,runny nose and eyes( eyes turned red a little) ,a little dizzyness at begining for @ 40 minutes and fever 37,5 C +mild headache probably from too much sneezing.
Difficulty breathing when i got to sleep but i took a nose spray and wasnt verry bad.

Now after 9 hours,a warm bath and 2 hours of sleep i feel almost healed.
For sure tomorrow morning i will have no sign of this and probably will even test negative if i do the corona test.( im not sure its corona).
I expected to be much worse but it was actually just 30% of the intensity of a regular 24hours cold.
Still skary due to the circumstances.Actually it was soo skary at somme point that ive considered to take a Xanax wich now im glad i didnt.
Now il have to self quarantine for 2 weeks to protect otthers in case its corona.

The bee pollen jar wich i think it helped me and toilet peper used as handkerchief ,proof of the cold.

Running nose and sneezing are NOT symptoms of covid19. You have just a normal cold hopefully!

My favourite recipe is male pumkin flowers (remember to remove the inside) stuffed with feta cheese (and other white cheeses, egg, pepper, raisin. Then for the exterior self raising flour with beer. Finally fry it in olive oil until golden/brown and it should taste amazing

Thanks! Any idea when fruits will form?

I am not familiar with your climate, but from the pic i would say in about one/two weeks female flowers will start blooming so maybe 3 months after that your fruits will be ready (depends on the variety)

24
You are really lucky you received them! My order from the same nursery got stuck because of covid19. Nice to see that all arrived well! Appart from the Jabo all the others should do well in any location (but i dont have any experience in growing those)

On my top 5 fruits i put mango first but thats because its a tropical fruit. The hibrid thogh its on par with the best mango and altough i have that big tree i only get to eat 2-3 fruits per year because all the fruits of that tree are being eaten by family .
Il be trying to do somme air layering on it for a friend this year and in case im successfull i could send you one with roots.

That would be even better! thanks very much!
We are unlucky we cant grow real mango ( only in greenhouse)
