Not sure what's happening to new leaves on grumichama tree.
« on: April 18, 2021, 12:08:47 PM »
I've had this for a bit.  It has been a voracious grower this spring.  Suddenly, the new leaves look soft and hang down.  They have not started to die, as of now, and plenty of new growth coming.

Zone 10, water once every 5 or 6 days, it's in partial sun and has loved it to this point.   Tons of new growth, so seems healthy to me.

Any ideas?

If it were me.... my first thoughts would be one or both of 2 possible causes... either it needs watering.... or it got a little cold last night.
It should bounce back on both of those counts... if that is the problem.
My Eugenias over-winter in a cool greenhouse... and frequently I would check on them after a cool night and see drooping on the new tender growth... but they always bounced back after it warmed-up later in the morning.

Good Luck.

Oh, you might have nailed it.  Several nights back it hit 44 degrees here and it seems like that is around the time it started to happen.

I'm pretty new to them and not sure of best conditions.  I moved it from strong sun to under a big oak with partial sun at various times and it ju aas t seems to have exploded in new growth.

Are they back up again? Looking normal and healthy?

Mine just now is starting to wake up so I'm surprised you've had new growth the last few months, I will say that based on what I've been told, both for us CA and AZ growers, grumichama can only handle partial sun and also needs alot of water, arguably more than once a week..keep us updated

I have my Grumi's in full sun and they love it. They over-wintered in my cool greenhouse and last month I moved them back out into full sun and they are thriving.

No 😔
Lots more leaves and all the new ones saggy and sad looking.

Are they back up again? Looking normal and healthy?

Looking at the first picture in the original post, your tree looks to be very deprived of water. Is the soil dry?

I don't think so, stick my finger in and it is a bit damp, but not wet.

The amount of new leaves is incredible, but everyone has the saggy curled look.  Not a single older leaf shows any negative changes at all.
