Temperate Fruit Discussion / Verry rare walnut
« on: April 18, 2019, 03:33:29 AM »
These are somme really rare giant walnuts that i got from an old tree .With the green husks on the tree they are almost as big as a male fist.I germinated all of them with 100 percent success even thogh they had a bit of mold inside .The mold appears because the nut shells dont seal verry well .Taste is verry good and they grow fast ,aparently being the second fastest fruiting walnut after the white walnut J Cinerea .But unlike J Cinerea these are long lived trees and the fast growth i think it comes from the fact that they grow from a giant seed.Somme countryes registered these as cultivars (in New Zealand i think),but here in the Carpathian Mountains they grow wild mostly planted by crows.

I think that comercial farmers dont use mulch because they like to till the land and mow the weeds .In case you till the land i think that the mulch has to be replaced each year.I use thin straw mulch around my trees and underneath it ,its always wet.I replace it every ear thogh because it gets lost while digging the land.

Im glad that it sparked your interest in geodesic domes and i will post more pictures along the way.The dome will even have 2 small beehives with bumblebees in it for pollination. If you have any questions about the costs or building techniques, feel free to ask.

They like shade, lots of water and acidic soil.Verry easy to propagate plants by layering.

I measured the ph of the charcoal plus urine mix and its almost 9.I expected to be high because the charcoal does contain somme ash ,but not this high. Finally i found that the high ph source was the water i used to estinguish the char wich has a ph of 10.I toght my ph meter its wrong but its not and that water really has 10.Im using this batch of charcoal for almond trees that like high ph but for acid loving plants like blueberryes ,this could raise the ph.

Shade protection for my pawpaws. Its made of construction fiber glass net thats put in 2 layers.Works great for me. Sapranthus Palanga also known as Asimina Foetida .Its a tropical annonaceae quite similar to A Triloba.Pictures are not mein but i wanted to share this as i think its interesting; I think this could probably be crossed with A triloba .

I will heat it with a rocket stove that i will build. Will have heating and thermal insulated walls wich  are just 2 walls and the air trapped between them its the insulator( air its best thermal insulator).I will grow exotic trees in it ,directly in the ground and in pots.

The dome its a 4V frequency and all the joints are cut to certain double axis angles by hand. The coating its made with 2 layers of linnen oil ,then 2 layers of white paint and next im planing to wax it somehow,to repel moisture better.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Geodesic dome greenhouse build
« on: April 16, 2019, 08:30:44 PM »
Here i present my dome greenhouse build that its made of wood and i used Buckminster Fuller ( the original inventor)method and plans. Also i got somme inspiration from ZipTieDomes on youtube wich its the best expert of domes i have discussed with. The dome its 4 meters high and 8 meters diameter, has almost 50 square meters of space at ground level and its mounted on concrete foundations. It will be covered in polycarbonate in exterior ( probably 4 mm thick) and will have another layer of plastic foil inside so that it will become a double wall wich will help a lot with temp isolation in winter( i live in zone 6).Will also have a heating system made with a rocket type burner with wood.

Mulch is good but has its downsides .It takes the nitrogen out of the soil to decompose .Because it lacks nitrogen ,it decomposes verry slow and thats the purpose of the mulch,to be slow to break down.If you want to compost wood chips or straws you need to add a nitrogen source like urine or else it shouldnt compost or get hot on its own.Another big danger its that it favours Mycorrhizae but it can also favour parasite fungi like Armillaria sp that have a wide range of hosts and if it infects a tree then its doomed- you can start growing mushrooms instead of fruit trees.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Terra preta or what i do with branches
« on: April 16, 2019, 01:11:07 PM »
Inspired by a documentary film about the amazonian black soil called Terra preta ,this year ive started making charcoal from the bushes and branches i get from cleaning my trees.I do it verry easy by igniting a pile of wood and carfully rack the charcoal underneath the pile by moving the top branches asside ,then water it to stop it burn to ashes. After i collect the charcoal,i mix it with a fertiliser high in N ( i use urine 1/8 parts water) and somme people let it sit to ,,charge,, with microbial life for 2 weeks before using it,but i use it straight away.Ive put a bucket of biochar mixed with 3 buckets of soil around my almonds.I dig a circular trench for each tree and then i bury the tera preta mix at the botom and on top i put somme normal soil.
The secret of Eldorado-the documentary film that inspired me to try this technique of soil improvement.https://youtu.be/0Os-ujelkgw

Anybody has more info about these? They are such a weird fruit and somme species are cold hardy to zone 6-7.Most of the info i found its in chinese and dont understand the language.https://youtu.be/cZ4BA0pAvwo

First check the ph of the soil because even if you have the nutrients in the soil, they might not be available because of the ph.For instance, phosphorus becomes less available as the soil becomes more acid and same thing applyes for manny otther nutrients.

Beware of Rojo Brillante if your a zone pusher bcause its not verry cold hardy.Jiro its more cold hardy.

Mulch on its own doesnt gets hot because it lacks nitrogen. But if you add a rich nitrogen source like fertiliser ,over the mulch, then, the decomposition process will start and could get hot, especially if you have a big pile of mulch.Mulch from fresh material it also sequester nitrogen from the soil .I use it only 5-10 centimeters thick in my orchards without causing problems.

That guy that told never to mulch a grafted tree ,i think he sayd that because somme people use mulch in excess and if   you use thick mulch that covers the graft its bad just like plabting the tree with the graft under the soil level.Use less mulch so that you dont get past the graft .

I am Mihai from Romania and i grow tropical fruit trees or shrubs, lianas in a heated geodesic dome greenhouse.I am also a zone pusher, trying to discover unusual and rare exotic fruits that could grow in zones 6-7.I am an enviromentalist and one of my hobbyes are to grow endangered trees and to find extremely fast growing tree species ( or cultivars).

1395
I soaked somme recalcitrant seeds for 24 jours in 500 ppm solution( i used efervescent gibberellic acid pills to make the solution).African persimmon D Lycioides,a verry rare annonaceae ,Uvaria Grandiflora seeds. These seeds i had them in wet paper towels for 4 months allready without any sign they would germinate. And i also sprayed 200 ppm acid solution on 2 small feijoa seedlings.Il announce later if the seeds will germinate or if the feijoa seedlings will grow to become monsters.

Anybody that has experience using Gibberellic acid for germination, plant growth or fast fruiting, seedless fruits, etc, please share.

From what i read ,its impossible to do that with kaki and youl have to graft onto eyther D.Kaki or D.Lotus rootstock.I have a Jiro and i was interested to propagate it by air layering too.
