Melon-choly
« on: September 28, 2012, 02:19:21 AM »
We have seen many melons in the last few months.Remember the various cantaloupes, honeydews and mango melon?

Some people can look at a melon and know what it is and what flesh color it has straight away.So what about this one? What flesh colour will have?

OK it is a cantaloupe or in my language a rockmelon. This type is pale green to gray has light to no netting and it smooth at the ends.It has a musky, sweet flavor typical of good cantaloupes rather than honeydews.

Asking Mike about watermelons is like asking me about cangoroo steaks  ;D.
They have good watermellons in Australia but nothing near the the quality we have in Romania.
This melon he calls it ,,jumbo,, its tiny ,mediocre and not even a true Cucumis Melo var Cantaloupensis.
I have the best seeds if you want to grow an outstanding fruit.

As for digging the old topics,i read the forum like a book and i find good informations on older threads.
I simply write the fruit im interested in the search bar and read all the forum threads about it .
From Mike T posts i really got convinced that the cantaloupes are scarce and tiny or hibridised in Australia.

I dont grow them but my friend grows them for a lifetime as a business.
I made a forum thread about the best of the best, the real cantaloupe ( Cucumis Melo var Cantaloupensis) .
Thats why i dig this old thread of Mike, because i made a forum about cantaloupes myself.
More details in my forum thread.

Well SeaWanut I have returned to the scene of the crime. I would not really characterise Australia as being the Model T of melons and Romania as being the space shuttle of such fruit. We prefer to soar with the eagles than flap with the turkeys. I would be delighted to see pix of some of the finest fair Romania has to offer on the melon front.
