Title: TYLCV question
Post by: Julie on February 13, 2021, 09:23:57 PM
All of my tomato plants are infected with TYLCV (tomato yellow leaf curl virus). However they are still producing delicious tomatoes on the growth from before they were infected, so I haven’t removed them yet. My question is, I’ve read that TYLCV can also infect eggplants and peppers, which I have nearby. Should I remove the tomatoes right away to avoid infecting my peppers and eggplants or does TYLCV rarely infect eggplants and peppers?

Have you checked to see if the varieties of eggplant and pepper that you are growing are resistant to the virus? I believe that the virus is transmitted by sap sucking insects, and would have assumed that the other solanums would have already been infected unless they were only recently planted.

No they are not resistant. However the peppers and eggplant don’t have any symptoms.
