Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Identifying three mango trees
« on: June 10, 2021, 11:39:10 PM »
Thank you John. I bought these at Wirts nursery in Babson Park.  There were no labels on any trees. They were closing to go out of business. I took pics two years ago of the fruit to post and was told I should have posted pics of the fruit on the trees too in order to help ID them. I have several ripe fruit pics posted in my name from two years ago.

I have all my other fruit trees labeled (110 of them) but never got a real idea on these three.

Thanks Pineislandsr!  I’m so glad one could actually be a Carrie!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Identifying three mango trees

I have three mango trees. They were mislabeled so I have no idea what they are. I was told they were Julie, Carrie and Indochina. All are delicious with little fiber.

Any ideas?

Tree 1: turns completely yellow when ripe inside and out.

Tree 2. Very thin pit. Yellow inside.

Tree 3. Ripe while green with orange flesh.

Also the flesh color is intense yellow in the picture because they are in a drier. I still have some yellow ones left. Here are better pictures of flesh and the outside. Could this be Julie?

There were two mango plants sold to me. I was told one was a Carrie and the other was a Julie. Neither tree was marked and I didn’t know which was which. One had yellow flesh and that is the large picture of mangos on a table and they are shaped oblong.  The other was dark green with very bright orange flesh inside. I wondered too if they were really Carrie and Julie strains since I did not have the level of damage I was expecting. My property has gotten to 33 degrees a few times with no damage. The fruit is amazing tasting and has almost no fiber. It is also what I would consider hearty since I just put organic fertilizer on it quarterly and that is all. The only damage was with the eyewall of Irma coming by caused the trees trunks to be blown sideways so the trunks are now at an angle. Is there a way I can find out the species almost like dna testing?

It kills me that I didn’t take pictures of my island with the Julie mangos. That was the 322 Carrie in the picture. This tree shot was taken about two weeks earlier. I know I took pictures but as part of texts that were deleted. Can you tell from looking at it on the tree?

I bought them in Babson Park at Wirt’s Point Nursery.

I thought these were Julie and Carrie mangos but it appears it isn’t so. If you know what these are, please let me know. The yellow inside mango has no red color and it is often really green when the flesh is very ripe. They only have small spots are yellow skin on the outside often when totally ripe.   They both had amazing taste. These trees were planted in 2015 and are very happy in Lake Wales next to a lake.   It really doesn’t freeze here and hasn’t frozen in my yard for 30 years. I had 322 yellow mangos and 184 round green mangos with orange flesh.

Sorry to change this post but I don’t want to contribute to confusion by calling these something they aren’t.
