Pretty thick branch youre doing it on. They respond pretty well to marcotting and even pencil thickness limbs can be done. There are a whole lot more species this technique works on than what conventional wisdom acknowledges.

I use the method for avocado rootstock. You can see it in Vimeo platform. That was a happy accident, I forgot to remove the grafting tape.

I stuck a veneer graft on a Mamey sapote and it started to show roots from the bottom of the scion. I simply planted it out deeper so those roots would be buried as well. A nice way to avoid a compatibility issue.

The technique is used for a successful avocado rootstock cloning and other varieties that don't propagate easily by cuttings or airlayer. Mostly you are looking for resistance to diseases.
