Unknown Cherimoya variety
« on: June 12, 2021, 12:17:47 PM »
Hi, I’m new here and will definitely be posting more as time goes on. Today, however, I am wondering if anyone would like to take a shot at identifying an unknown variety of cherimoya. The fruit in the photo belongs to a vigorous tree that is thriving in the Bay Area of California. The tree is about 10’ tall, with thick/shiny leaves. I’m my experience, the leaves are thicker and shinier than most (especially when compared to a Vietnamese type). Fruit from this tree is almost always perfectly round, with subtle scaling/texture.

This Spring, I grafted three scions from this tree onto my Vietnamese variety, and all three took. My guess at this point is Fino de Jete, but I’m sure there are experts out there who can offer a more accurate assessment. Thanks so much! :)
