Grumichama not fruiting
« on: January 03, 2020, 09:51:32 AM »
After 7 years the grumichama is not fruiting.

It is in full sun and some websites say that is no good, we have very much sun...

Is there a trick to make it bloom or is 7 years normal? I am tempted to move it to a less sunny spot but it grows well now finally, first 3 years it looked terrible.

It likes plenty of water. I had one that bloomed and set fruit after being flooded every day due to a rupture in the irrigation
hose.

Where is Udon? Are you getting flowers on your tree yet? After lots of rain and cold weather here in Southern California, my grumi (in the ground) is about to explode with flowers, so, for here, it seems like lots of water and cold weather trigger flowering. Mine is against an 8ft wall and faces east, so it’s protected somewhat and doesn’t get full sun. My trees about 8 1/2 ft tall and probably around the same age as your tree. It was in a 25 gal pot last year and flowered but didn’t set fruit, it’s in the ground now so hopefully I’ll get some fruit with this flush. Good luck.

I have 2 yellow grumichama trees in the ground in full sun. One of them
has mostly yellow leaves. It is 25 feet apart from the other green tree and gets the
same water and fertilizer? Both of them have fruited every year for the
past 4-5 years. Tons of fruit on both trees but the season is short and all
get ripe at once. I also have around a 7 year old regular tree that flowers every
year and has never set one fruit? I had another tree that set fruit the size of
a ping pong ball with about 10 seeds per fruit? The fruit was awful and I dug it up
after 3 years of bad fruit. They seem highly variable? Last year was the last chance
for the 7 year old tree but it gets one more chance. My trees flower and fruit in the
Spring each year after a cool dry period. I start watering heavy each Spring

I'm going to move it, i need the sunny spot for a tree that sure produces nice fruit..i never ate grumichama.

We just had winter and it only grows more, no flowers, never and i water it a lot.

thanks for all the help.

Thailand stays pretty warm...maybe they need some cold hours to set fruit, but I’m not sure.

Yes the tree does not get cold hours, nothing. So i will move it for another fruit tree which loves heat, pomelo.
