I purchased a couple Australian grown Daisy Mandarins at the market, This is the first time I have ever seen Daisy for sale in Colorado. The fruit is quite large for a mandarin, about the size of navel orange, but has a flatter shape.. Daisy is seedy, but has a very appealing taste. The fruit has been around for quite some time, but for some reason has never been available in Colorado.

Is it different than 'Dancy'?
Dancy is one of my faves.

Daisy to me seems to have a tropical mandarin flavor.
It's not my thing, but that's probably just personal preference. I could see how that type of flavor could be appealing to others.

Oolie, The Dancy mandarin and Daisy mandarin are not the same fruit. The Dancy mandarin came from a seed of the Moragne mandarin (a seedling) planted by Colonel Dancy over 100 years ago. The Dancy mandarin is one of the oldest citrus varieties gown in Florida. The Daisy mandarin is a hybrid between the Fremont and Fortune mandarins, made just 52 years ago.

Daisy SL is heralded to be the best tasting mandarin according to David Karp.

Yes, but I don't think the CCPP budwood is a Daisy SL, it is the Daisy (VI-382).

Yes I know but I don't mind seeds. I would not buy because it is not a hardy citrus and CCPP budwood is too exspensive for me in Georgia.

Evergreen nursery in San Diego. I looked into this quite a bit a few years ago. I think many growers quietly swapped out daisy for daisy sl, and so many trees labeled as daisy now are really daisy sl. My tree is labeled daisy and it has been seedless. As another poster mentioned, it does have a tropical fruit punch finish that I do like. David at Bonita Creek nursery told me last year he had actually procured some bonifide daisy sl trees.

Thanks for the info CA Hockey, I will need to go there and pick up a few trees. Looking forward to tasting the fruits.

I bought a daisy at Evergreen earlier this year - it came with two tags, one said daisy and one said daisy SL so I assume it's the SL (no fruit yet).
