What would be a good rootstock in California to use for the buds though?

Would a Mexican lime tree or Navel orange be feasible?

Madridje, yes. I think you can graft (scions, not buds) finger lime on any other variety except not the grapefruit/pomelo since their branches are just to fat and not a good match. I have grafted with success on bearss lime, lemon, orange, sanbotan, mandarin and FD with no issues.

sc4001992, thanks for the heads up.

I was going to purchase the buds and just give it a try some time this week.

Going to have to search for Finger lime scions instead.

Thanks for your guidance!

Madridje, as mentioned above by Whitehorn, you can get the finger lime from CCPP. First you need to register with the UCR Citrus Clonal Protection Program (CCPP) free and then order the budwoods. One cutting with 6 buds will cost as shown below. They have over 370 citrus varieties to chose from.

I did my first order and didnt understand properly. I thought I was buying 3 scions not buds. Anywho, I found that the "3 bud" orders and the "6 bud" orders can on scions the same length with at least 8 buds on the scion. Is that pretty normal?

are "green" and "red" fingerlimes still the only types available in the US?  I have yet to see anything else for sale, unless you count the "blood lime" and faustrime

I believe red and green are it. Blood I’ve seen only at Logees and one green world, but they’re pricy. I think they have “giant green” as well around. I’ve collected a few other colors, but had to jump through ALOT of hoops to get them.
