taste of cas guava
« on: March 17, 2021, 05:34:29 PM »
Can anyone who tried cas guava give me a detailed taste description? I like sour fruits and fruits with complex strong flavors. But still have no idea if cas can be eaten out of hand.

Cas guava are very sour about the same level as a lemon so if you're one of those people can eat lemons out of hand you be ok . Very strong guava flavor good make guava drinks .

So I would say it’s sour but not like a lime.  If you like sour fruits you might eat it.  Here, where it’s native, people make juice drinks with sugar.  It takes a while to come into production.

To me, its the best raw eating guava.  Its sour but has a hint of sweet in the dour.  As you get to the center, its very rich in flavor.  Its flavor is not like any pink or white guava, its an explosion of tropical flavors.  When ripe, its juicy and creamy.  The tree itself is amazingly ornamental.

There’s a similar fruit we call Brazilian cas.  On my farm the fruits are a bit bigger and a little softer.
I agree with Rob, they’re sour but interesting and not so hard to eat.

The cas I had in Costa Rica was served me as a refresco natural and tasted, more than anything, not unlike a refreshing lemonade.

I got to where I craved it while I was there!

It's very sour and has a lot of seeds, has a very strong guava smell and flavor, and also does not get worms in it like other guavas.  I know of a farm that has it here in homestead.

Mine don’t get worms but I have seen them on another property with worms.
