EvilFruit, do u ve any picture of that Kerala mango...?

Yes

2
Just recently I tried some mango called "Kerala Ripe Mango", They might be Neelem Mango but I am not 100% sure. Anyway, the flavor was something new to me, It was like eating a Pineapple or sweet orange. I have never ate a mango like this flavor before.

Another mango I liked and growing it from seed is Gedong Mango from Indonesia. The fruit is similar to Alphonso in flavor (at least to me) and it also had little bit of Guava flavor but not too strong.

Ghazal and Garaat Mango are supposed to be "everbearing" mango trees.

Quote
Ghazaal is a dwarf tree that gets 6 to 8 meters high and 6 meters wide. Produces fruits 3 times a year. The fruits are uniform weighing about 1500 to 300 grams each. The taste is good. Excellent plant for a small space.

Quote
Garaat is a local variety that produces flowers and fruits 3 to 4 times a year. If not pruned, the tree gets up to 20 meters high and 15 meters wide. The fruits taste is ordinary but tastes better in winter than in summer.  Fruits weigh from 200 - 400 grams. The trees bear fruits at a very young age and you can find blooms and fruits of various sizes almost 10 months a year.

Theyre here.

I believe, The first mango is Anwar Ratol and the second is chaunsa, Am I right  :P ?.

If you can find Indian/Pakistani supermarket in your area, Ask them for White chaunsa or black Chaunsa. These two should be even better than the normal Chaunsa.

9
Do you still have Pacific Lychee and Mangifera odorata seeds ?.

10
Pometia pinnata/ Fiji longan,  are supposed to be easy to grow, good tolerance against wind and salt spray and I believe they are some trees in Florida but not 100% sure.

Get a plant if you interested in this fruit because the seeds of this species are hard to ship.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Growing cherimoya in France
« on: July 02, 2019, 01:05:39 PM »
I have never tried to grow cherimoya before. I thought they would not do well in Desert climate and poor soil, But once you give them Micro nutrients and Potassium , they should do well. I believe the lack of Micro nutrients in your soil is the problem.

Here is a couple of Fino de Jete cherimoya seedlings, they are about two months old.

I had some nice Chempedak seeds from Han Sen as well but they were dug up and eaten by some animals.  >:(

Sorry to hear that.

If you are going to grow other species of Artocarpus, I recommend Artocarpus rigidus, they are easy to grow.

cherimoya should do fine in poor soil and hot weather. In fact I have a few seedlings that are grown in pure desert soil.

As for Avocado, it does not do well in hot weather but, It can be grown in a little bit of shade.

I tried several types Cempedak seeds, about 8 Cultivars. Two of Them are doing ok but the rest are dead or struggling. And those two are Durian Cempedak (from the local supermarket) and Pink Cempedak from Han Sen.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Papaya questions
« on: June 13, 2019, 05:12:48 PM »
I finally got a ripe papaya.  The plants did nothing all winter/spring.  Was a long cold season.  The fruit is pretty good, no seeds thats nice.  Not sure what that means?  The whole sex of papaya plants is a bit confusing.  One tree was not making fruit so I killed it.  Im down to 2 trees.

No male pollen = no seeds

Anyway, I find Papaya fruit with seeds are much better than without seeds. There are little bit sweeter and Juicer when they have seeds, imo.

Congratulation

not sure, what are some of the common names?  I don't think I have.

Did you try Kasturi?

Nope, I only tried the common Mango.

You can get Mangifera foetida for 70 baht, about 2.25 USD. From here

sahai1,

Have you tried other species of Mangifera beside indica and casturi ?.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Sapodilla that tastes like mamey
« on: June 04, 2019, 05:17:45 PM »
I was at Zill's a while back...and tasted a sapodilla that had a flavor of both mamey and sapodilla.

Does anyone know what type this may have been??  It was really nice.

Couldn't you just ask Zill's? ;)
that's a novel idea!
One of the employees was eating the fruit, and didn't know what cultivar it was (the fruit even had some red in the flesh, like mamey) Yes I suppose I could ask Zill, but was wondering if anyone else had tasted a sapodilla that was reminiscent of mamey..and if they knew the cultivar name.

I suppose this fruit I tasted was much more special (rare) than I realized.

but I saved the seeds!!
A friend of mine here in Vallarta has some of those! Is a Sapodilla but with a kind of red flesh instead of the regular beige/ brown  one, and a some mamey notes, some people believe is a hybrid between these two, hence the popular name here " mamey- sapote" as sapodilla is refer here as " Chico Sapote"

Raul

Any update about those red sapodillas  ?.

Brewster and Huerng Lai have a strong rose smell

Simon

Thanks Simon

I believe mine is Huerng Lai with undeveloped seeds. The good thing about it, it does not need so much chill hours to flower.

Is there a lychee cultivar that has a rose water flavor ?.

My little tree produced 3 fruits  :'( and it did not taste like the typical store bought lychee, it was like sugary rose water with some lychee flavor  :P.

The average weight of Marula fruit is around 19.6g and mine is 24g, not too bad I guess

In my case, Yes it doesn't need cross pollination but having a single tree might hurt the yield. I have seen only female flowers on my tree and It produced about 5 ripe fruits and a few unripe fruits that got knocked out by a strong wind/Shamal.

what was the taste?

A little bit sour with pleasant smell, It not the most enjoyable fruit in the world but I like it, I personally will put it in the same category as June plum, maybe a little higher.

As for flavor/taste, Marula is from Anacardiaceae family, the flavor remind me of unripe mango.

I'm jealous. Got my seeds in late 2014. Trees will probably reach the roofline this year after several years of slow growth. I have a probable female and my approach grafts from last year have taken (unknown and probable male). At least they're not as slow as the baobabs I got in the same seed shipment. That's still only 10 inches tall.

Try to feed it NPK, Marula respond really well to Chemical Fertilizer.

Here is my tree. The wall in the right side is 8ft.

unripe fruit
