I recently moved to Davie in August ,  all these trees have been with me in containers between 1-4 years. My goal throughout the years was to train them to be low branching and compact . I put trees in ground in early September they look happy and seem to be adapting well , I’m blessed to finally have a place to call my own! Love this forum!

Wow 70 fruit is nice! So you only spray once with sulfer as soon as it blooms and that’s it?  Do you spray if there is no signs of PM as well as a preventative? How about in the off-season? Thanks bud!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lemon Zest and Powdery Mildew
« on: September 20, 2018, 12:02:48 AM »
Hi all, I have an opportunity to get a really nice healthy looking lemon zest mango tree  , it’s about 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide, i have tasted lemon zest before at Benders about 2 years ago and thought it was a great mango. I’ve been reading and hearing that it has issues with powdery mildew. If I where to get it, will I put my other trees at risk of getting powdery mildew as well? Is it worth the maintenance and spraying regimen? Or should I just pass on it? Thoughts please!

PM sent , sorry you have to sell your trees

This is a video that’s been shared on the forum before. I pretty much followed these guidelines. At about 8:30 into the video it details pruning instructions, I recommend watching the whole video, very informative!

Congrats on your first tree, i “pugged” my trees at about 18 - 24 inches. I made my cuts just above internode ring. These are my trees 3 years later. Also an M4 that I recently purchased and pugged.Good luck and welcome to the mango community.

Nice nighthawk, so pick early and get pina colada kick to it , pick later and get more of the coconut flavor, sounds like a win win!! 😁

Nighthawk keep us posted on the M-4 please! Just picked one up this week.

I really appreciate all the advise guys , still bummed that I have to wait so long for the fruits to mature. :(  but I read and heard that it will continue to flower and hopefully set more fruit throughout most of the year - so I guess there is a long initial wait and then I’ll have fruit for many months. :)

Thanks for the advise roblack, seems like I have to wait till next year for ripening though, that’s what I understood at least. I’m hoping my dog guards my trees from the critters -  Would love to see some more pics of your Alanos!
