Tropical Fruit Discussion / Alano fruit set
« on: August 02, 2018, 11:46:49 AM »
Hello, this morning I was watering my trees and noticed my Alano had 2 tiny fruits for the first time! If they actually hold on , how long do they usually take to mature and harvest? Thanks! I’ll post some pics tonight.

54
Kellogg potting soil, osmocote 14-14-14 , azomite( mixed it in when i transferred them from 15gal to 25gal) , liquid seaweed about once a month, water every other day. The 45 gal containers I got from my local nursery , owner gifted to me.

55
Thanks for the heads up Mark, that was the main reason I just switched from 25 gal to 45 gal this week. I was surprised that there was hardly any roots exposed at all .

56
Thanks for the compliments! it took me about  3 years after I initially “pugged” them to get them to look like this. I’ll list what dirt and fert I’ve been using tomorrow.

Hope everyone is enjoying the mango season!  Just wanted to post some updated pics of some of my favorite trees! My Pickering gave me 2 delicious fruits this year for the first time, very delicious mango with a tropical coconutty twist to! Nothing yet from the Maha, Peach Cobbler . The Alano has been pumping out flowers for 3-4 months but hasn’t set fruit either. All are in 45gal except for Maha 25gal

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango weight and branches
« on: May 17, 2018, 03:55:58 PM »
Hi , my container Pickering is fruiting for the first time, it held 2 fruit on the same small branch- I’m worried the branch might snap. Should I prop them up with something or just let it be? Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jabo and dragon fruit
« on: May 11, 2018, 07:16:10 PM »
hello, I have a 5 year old jabo in a container, I’m not sure what variety it is. Can you guys tell by the leaves or bark? It hasn’t fruited yet 😒. Also I had a couple questions regarding dragon fruit - a friend gave me a few large pieces from his place , I did the best I could standing and tying them up. They had flowers last year but no fruit before I transplanted to my house. My questions are - when should I expect to flower again and will the flower on new growth only? Thanks and have a great weekend !

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID help

This has been growing in my yard for close to 3 months , I haven’t pulled it because I was waiting to see if it ever flowered or fruited. It’s started to grow some sort of pods, any ideas anyone?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Bangkok Thailand Fruits and Buggies
« on: May 08, 2018, 07:07:32 PM »
Hi everyone! just want to share some photos my dad recently sent me from a local market in Bangkok, he is visiting a friend.  Maybe one day I’ll make the trip with my wife when our kids get a little older. Does anyone know if he is allowed to ship me any seeds?

64
Sounds good Gary!  :D

65
Gary ,  I might take you up on your offer! I’m not too far from ya.

66
Beautiful tree JF! can’t wait to see mine with fruit!  mine has been pushing new growth non stop over the last couple months Jani, and now its flowering too!

67
Great feedback guys, I’ve tried saps many times, just never really asked what variety- I haven’t tasted one I haven’t liked that’s for sure -  that being said - I would like to try Silas wood and Makok before buying. Great to hear Alano fruits most of the year Keith!  how long do you guys think I can keep my Alano in a 45gal - I just upped it from 25gal.

68
Ok , would Makok be a good complementary variety to my Alano to have year round fruit? Or any other winter variety ?

69
Alona is my fastest grower. It blooms year round but fruits start to ripen in June or July and it goes on till November. Silas Wood and Makok are both heavy producers

Thanks for the info guys, if Alano blooms year round would that mean it would fruit all year round? Sorry I’m a bit confused   ???

70
Just removed with pruners!

71
I can’t wait to taste!! Its just in 1 container- It’s not what it looks like, it’s just the top ring of the old container , I couldn’t cut the top off it was to thick for my scissors. It’s currently in a 45gal

72
Any Alano owners know when they typically flower?, Ive read they can possibly flower throughout the year. Thanks!

73
Yay!!  ;D

74
I’ve had my Alano Sapodilla for a little over  3 years, I had it in ground for 1 1/2 year then dug it out , pugged, and put in a container when I moved. It’s never flowered or beared fruit for the obvious reasons, but could this finally be?! I love this little tree so much, is it showing me some love?? I hope so!! We’ve been through a lot together! LoL
