Picked up some organic California Keitts at Aldi for 39 cents.    I plan to sprout a few seeds

American Beauty is a good-sized fruit, no pollination needed (still unsure about self-fertile vs. self-pollinating).  I had to pick this one a little early due to ants burrowing into it.  I usually wait till all the scale tips dry up.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Arizona Purple dragonfruit
« on: July 22, 2017, 07:13:41 PM »
Arizona Purple has small fruits, but as you can see, they have a rich, dark color & more flavor than white varieties.  Plus, Arizona Purple makes an abundant amount of flowers/fruits

No pollination/pollinator necessary

Popular in Latin America, Chaya is a high protein leafy green.
Very nutritious, it is drought tolerant & low maintenance.
Leaves must be boiled for 3-5 minutes before eating, as they contain hydrocyanic glycosides.
Fish & animals love eating it, too!
Goes dormant during Winter, but grows vigorously in warm weather.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Blue Java banana experiences
« on: June 08, 2017, 12:00:28 PM »
I currently have a Dwarf Namwah & Dwarf Jamaican Red.  I love the Dwarf Namwah - the thick trunk making staking unnecessary, the fruit production, the flavor etc.  Dwarf Jamaican Red, however, grows slow as molasses.  It's having faster growth this year than previous years, but I've been anticipating trying the fruit for some time.

I wanted to know about Blue Java, and if it's another banana variety I should grow, here in SoCal

I have Sunshine Blue & Jewel.  Local trade only, no shipping.

Recipes / Pasture-raised Lard or Tallow?
« on: December 23, 2015, 02:20:30 PM »
Which are the most nutritious & best tasting, in your opinion?

I've read pasture-raised lard has more Vitamin D, but tallow has more CLA.

Which do you recommend?

Local pickup.

Dwarf Namwah is a sweet, delicious Thai Ladyfinger variety who's thick trunk means staking isn't required.  It takes our SoCal winter temps just fine.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Glenn Mango impressions
« on: August 04, 2015, 12:34:51 PM »
Sour apple gummy candy.  That's what came to mind as I tried Glenn mango for the first time.  Creamy, fiberless.  I rather enjoyed it.  I know it's not considered in the top 5 (or top 10, even) of mangoes, but I appreciate it

71
I'm looking to acquire some seeds.  Had one before, but it died on me

Beauregard sweet potato slips, well rooted in water.  I eat sweet potato almost daily and saw Youtube videos on how productive growing them in containers can be.  Thusly, I decided to buy some.
