Citrus General Discussion / 12 pound citron or lemon - citron hybrid?
« on: April 24, 2019, 01:30:21 PM »
Hi,
I bought a citrus from a stall with 12 pound citrus fruit in Amalfi, Italy.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dNWiUur3_dE

The vendor insisted they are citrons (cedro). However, other vendors in the area insisted that the Cedro are the smaller (haha, 1-4 pound) warty, elongated pointy bright or dark yellow fruit while the type of fruit i bought (up  to 12 pounds, pale yellow, stocky and usually of irregular shape) are a lemon - citron hybrid.

Who is right?  In the area there is an incredible diversity of lemon-like citrus.

« on: March 10, 2019, 05:25:31 AM »
Hi,
found this on a Borneo market.

Vendor calls it a cucumber but to me it looks more like a untypical cucamelon. But two of the fruit were reddish inside. Maybe a cucamelon hybrid with some crazy Asian vegetable? Please help id it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Exotic fruit in Germany
« on: February 26, 2019, 08:46:23 PM »
Hi,
I have been fruit hunting in SW-Germany for over 35 years now. We have submediterranean and with climate change maybe even mediterranean microclimate in some locations so there is a lot of exotic fruit grown in the area. Still, im missing a few important fruit here. There are rumors, vage mentions but nothing substantial. Thats why i want to start an "exotic fruit in Germany" topic. Im particularly interested in edible bananas, citrus or passion fruit grown outdoors without protection.
Anyone here who has seen crazy exotic fruit grown outdoors in Germany?

« on: February 02, 2019, 11:03:35 PM »

Description: Pear or fig shaped, Outside: first green, than the spines turn red, than the entire fruit turns bright red, orange or pale green. Inside: aril bright red on the outside, bright yellow inside, seeds dark. Avocado taste. Video of the fruit at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e6o0XrvdmgU . I think its Durio carinatus but not sure. Thanks in advance
