Dead Wood In The Tree Canopy
« on: August 03, 2019, 03:39:41 PM »
Around this time of year there can normally be found dead wood appearing in citrus trees.  These should be pruned out to reduce diseases.   Melanose, diploda stem end rot, and anthracnose develop in dead wood within the tree canopy, which then is further carried onto fruit during summer rains.

I go a step further. I prune out all dead, diseased, unhealthy looking ends and take them to my pestolator. Its an old birdbath in my grove. In it a few lumps of charcoal and bottle of lighter. I put the prunings in it, set it on fire as I leave. No dead, diseased wood left to breed disease and pest.

Great ‘how to idea’ to destroy diseased wood. The bird bath In your grove must be huge ! The whole state of Alabama is under a no burn order and they just increased the danger level. We have been without rain for a long time this summer. Tom

Not really big. About 3 feet in diameter. Sometimes I have to cut up stuff to get it incenerated. But Its worth it. Its a natural pest and disease remover.
