Tropical Fruit Discussion / First fruits on my Pitomba
« on: May 29, 2022, 04:43:03 AM »
These are the first fruits on my Pitomba plant. Thanks to 'achetadomestica' for selling me the seeds. I find the fruits very nice and sweet when they are harvested when they are Orange in color. I am very happy for having got a nice fruit! I had tasted some Pitomba at Fairchild Botanical Gardens and had found the fruits to be mediocre. But the ones I tasted in 'Kampong', Fairchild's old home, were large and excellent.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Red jabo
« on: September 14, 2021, 12:10:40 AM »
I have 2 six year old Red jabo plants in 12 gal pots which have been fruiting well.  I have been noticing for some time, there are no new leaves on both, even though flowers have set fruits. Is it because they are root bound? What are the signs of root bound trees? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / No chill loquat varieties.
« on: August 23, 2021, 05:30:20 AM »
Are there any Loquat varieties that do not require chill hours? I am asking this because, I had planted some loquat seedlings some six or seven years ago, and on learning that they need chill hours, neglected them. But suddenly last week, I found fruits on one of the trees. They were almost ripe, but the bats beat me , so that I could get only three fruits. They are small, the size of a kumquat, but sweet with slight sourness.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Yellow jaboticaba/Cabeludinha flowers
« on: September 01, 2020, 07:45:21 AM »
I have two yellow jaboticaba plants in pots which are about 3 years old and over 6 feet tall. They put out flower buds about 6 weeks ago. Even though the buds have swelled, they have not opened. Is this normal or is there something that can be done?

Went into the forest to collect some Garcinia morella fruits. The fruits are about an inch in diameter, with two or three seeds. The pulp inside is sweet, with a mango flavour! No sign of sourness.

« on: April 24, 2020, 06:30:33 AM »

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Garcinia madruno from Trade Wind Fruits.
« on: February 12, 2020, 06:52:24 AM »
I have two plants from seeds I bought 5 years ago from Trade Wind Fruits as Garcinia madruno. When the plants were 2 years old, I thought the leaves looked like Garcinia intermedia, but much larger, so they might be a different Garcinia. I already had three fruiting Lemondrop mangosteen plants then. Now that one of the so called Garcinia madruno has fruited, I find that it is nothing but Garcinia intermedia!!! So it seems I have been taken for a ride by Trade Wind Fruits!!

Garcinia madruno fruit.
