Good mango varieties resistant to fruit flies
« on: June 07, 2021, 05:46:49 PM »
Hi,

From what I understand some varieties of mango are much more resistant to fruit files than others.

Do you know which good varieties are resistant to fruit flies?  I wanted to try the varieties "edgar" and "ataualfo" but would much prefer not to use traps because of where I will keep these trees (i.e., far from where I live).

Thanks!
Edgard

Do you mean fallen mangos? Because they don’t bother any mangos on my trees that aren’t split or diseased.
Don’t rush, take time and enjoy life and food.

This was discussed in a different thread.  The mango itself is not attacked by fruit flies.  A split, damaged, diseased/rotting with an open wound is a different story but I dont know of any variety with damage that fruit flies wouldn't attack.

You are all talking about Ceratitis capitata, right? I didn't know it doesn't attack undamaged mangoes. I use organza bags and waxed paper bags combined to protect my fruit (including mangoes) from this fly, snails and birds and bottles with attractant liquid to reduce the population. Really a pain in the ass this insect.
